I bought an Onkyo receiver in December and realized I needed a powered subwoofer. Found this and couldn't be more pleased. Great price and a nice addition. J&R was quick with delivery and right in between the holidays....more info
  • An Excellent SW for the Price
Believe it or not, I had never owned a powered subwoofer until I purchased the "Onkyo SWK204" after researching what I might need to complete my sound system after adding a new Panasonic Plasma HDTV, a Sony Blu-Ray DVD, and a new Sony receiver. After a week of listening to the SW in my home, I am thrilled with the purchase.

The "Onkyo SWK204" Bass Reflex powered subwoofer has a built in 230 watt amp which is more than adequate for the home theatre system I have installed in my large living/family room. It is a 10" cone subwoofer that is attractive yet non intrusive in a basic black with silver cone and sturdy enough weighing in at 26 pounds.

I am NOT a techie so I will only say that with so many of the new movie sound tracks containing low frequency emissions (LFE), I was astounded at the difference this SW made in my home entertainment enjoyment. It has a frequency response of 25 Hz to 150 Hz and a continuously variable crossover (50Hz-200Hz) controlled by a cross over frequency control along with the customary volume control and a lighted standy mode.

There are certainly better and more powerful subwoofers out there and you will, of course, pay for the advanced power or features. As a home audio/visual amateur, I found this unit to be an acceptable and efficacious choice based on performance and price.

  • Onkyo Powered Subwoofer
    Onkyo SKW-204 Powered Subwoofer
I bought this unit for my 7.1 surround system and having recently purchased a receiver from Onkyo I found that the price was good for what I wanted and the size was good for my home theater room. So far I have not been dissapointed by the performance of this unit. It handles very well the low ranges encountered in movie soundtracks, as well as 5.1 surround satellite HDTV programs. NO complaints so far. This unit packs a punch for it's size....more info
  • Great Sub for the price
Great sounding sub, for 100 bucks. If you want something better you 're gonna have to fork over more $$ but if you have a small-medium room this one is sufficient, my friend had a klipch, and the sound is almost the same, his is downfiring and this one is not but both shake the walls and movies really chnage went you hear them thru a nice sub like this one, if you're like me, someone that doen't have the budget to buy a 400-500 dollar sub this one is more than enough....more info
  • BIG BOOM!
This subwoofer was a real surprise to me. Its hard to tell the size of the product from the picture ( even though they give the dimensions), but the sub is BIG and powerful. I am very pleased wit this. I hooked it up to my ONkyo 606 system and the whole house shook when I played the THX optimizer. Its also nice that you adjust the volume and Hz on the back. I would recommend this to anyone who likes deep bass and easy controls. ...more info
  • to replace old onkyo
got this to replace my old subwoofer that burned out. not very happy with the quality. it is not that good if you do not turn the volume up. but then if you do there is all sort of crakling and vibration noise from the unit.
not one of my best choices....more info
  • Crummy rattling from the box/grill
I was pretty excited about this subwoofer when I got it. The was a powerful unit for the price. There is tons of power...no question about that. The problem is if I turn the volume up half-way or more, the box/grill rattle very loud. I've found many other people online have had the same problem. I was trying to give it a chance because I really wanted to keep it. The rattle drove me nuts and no amount of adjustment could fix it. Unfortunately I called just a few days after the 30 days were up and the distributor (J&R world???)wouldn't even talk to me about the problem...they said I had to call Onkyo for service. I called Onkyo...they wouldn't take it back or replace it...my only option is to take it in to an authorized service place that is 2 hours away. They were total jerks about it over the phone. Apperantly I was speaking to Mr. Onkyo himself because he said there was no supervisor higher than him I could talk to. Crappy rattle with crappy service....more info
  • This Sub Rocks
I have had this sub about a month or so and I love it. I have it hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-1017TXV Home Theater Receiver along with seven Sony Bravia speakers. Let me tell you this sub has amazing bass. The only drawback is that it tends to rattle when playing music with extreme bass but other than that it sounds great. Movies come alive with this thing. I did alot of research on different subs before I bought this one and for the money you can't beat it. It has volume and frequency controls along with a phase switch on the back so you have complete control of how you want it to sound. It is also one of the best looking subs on the market. If you want a great sub without spending a fortune then you should get this one. ...more info

  • Best Of Everything
I bought this subwoofer in December of 2006 and tested it among 3 other brands. It was by far the best-performing of the 4 with very clean, tight bass, and a very smooth adjustment curve as I turned up the power. For the price, I think there is no better value out there right now. If I could change one thing, I would make the power control more accessible since it is behind my entertainment center and not easy to reach. ...more info
  • Not Bad
I've always like Onkyo products and I bought this one with out hearing it. It does good at low levels and even in some louder cases but occaisionlly the cabinet will rattle if you want really heavy bass. The price was great and I would recommend it if you are not going for extreme volumes....more info
  • Powered Subwoofer Onkyo SKW204
Great bass, because the great size, work great with my Onkyo Home theatre, only have to connect to the power and with a RCA cable (included) to the Home theatre, was a great purchase....more info
  • Great Sub - Great Price
I bought this to enhance my Bose Accustimass 7 speaker system because the sub that comes with this system is passive and didn't have enough bass for me when watching DVDs. Luckily my receiver had a separate output for a sub. I hooked it up last night and put in the Lord of the Ring DVD and WOW! I'm very impressed. I haven't done any adjustments yet to see how they sound with more power or different crossover settings. I'm pretty happy with it right out of the box!
It fits my media room just right for a great movie theatre experience.

  • Great Sub
Definitely a great subwoofer, especially for the price - When you look at the two controls, frequency and level, it tends to muddle out the closer to 200 you have it - I find setting it about 70 to 80 (the lower end of the range) and having the level set about mid-way provides the right kind of low end balance that I need. Although I am running a pair of studio monitors at the front of the soundstage - If running only satellite or micro speakers, you may want to bring the gain up to about 120 or 130 to get more of the vocal base range. By no means is it small, and there's an auto off feature that won't turn the sub on until it get's a strong enough signal. It's just a matter of getting used to it. Other than that, I love it! ...more info
