- Great for the Price
I purchased a new hard drive for my laptop and needed a simple way to clone my old hard drive to my new one before installing it. I was able to easily connect my new hard drive to my laptop's usb port with this device and cloned my old hard drive using Acronis True image software.
I have to say this project was much easier than I had anticipated due to having this device. I would recommend it to anyone needing to upgrade a laptop hard drive or to connect a hard drive to another computer....more info
- Works very well
I purchased this converter to be able to access some old IDE drives in my garage. This is a perfect addition for a computer tech shop. I have used it with Windows XP, MAC OS-X (Leopard), and Ubuntu Linux and it worked like a charm. I also used the device very successfully with two different "live" recovery CD's. Both System-Rescue-CD and Ultimate-Boot-CD-4-Windows work great without the need for any drivers. I was able to access disks with partitions containing DOS, NTFS, Linux LVM, Linux RAID, and many other FS types without any problem and recover their content. When I use the converter, I usually first hook it up to the drive, then power the drive up using the brick, then hook the USB to the PC, then power up the PC. I also always make sure that the disks drive-select is on MASTER (as indicated in the little manual that comes with it). Just remember that the intended use of this converter is not a permanent, high-speed disk interface, but rather a recovery and salvage tool. Highly recommended....more info
- great product
product was purchased to read an old hard drive out of my old computer and it worked great!!...more info
- Very Handy!
A very slick little piece of hardware. Great for scanning those infected hard drives and removing viruses and spyware. Works very nice on laptop drives....more info
The Sabrent USB-DSC5 adapter is very useful if you have a drive that you want to test and you do not want to have to open your computer. This one of the best devices that will work for checking all kinds of drives that use Serial ATA or IDE connections. The documentation is lacking some information on how to use this device....more info
- Finally- access to my laptop drive!
This was very easy to use and I love it. I had a laptop die a few years ago. I knew the hard drive was good but never had a way to get the info off of it other than taking it to a big store and paying over $100+ to have them copy it. This product is reasonably priced, covers most if not all connections that would be needed to access any hard drive and it soooo easy to use. You just plug the hard drive into the proper side and the usb connection to your computer and it shows just like an external drive. I had been considering tossing the old hard drive but Im so glad I kept it because I now have the pictures and files I couldnt access before....more info
- Product worked as I'd hoped
I hooked up the hard drive to the Sabrent adaptor, plugged it in to the USB port, and Win Explorer allowed me to extract my data from a non-booting drive. No surprises. It just worked! ...more info
- Looks good. Doesn't work!
I really needed and looked forward to using this product. There is no CD as is mentioned in reviews. It's easy to assemble and attach. It just doesn't work and do what it says it will do. Motor activates but does not do anything. I used it with a Western Digital SATA 250GB WD2500JB (Caviar SE)internal drive. Inadequate and minimal "instructions" state to make sure drive is set to Master. Both drives are the same. I researched settings and found evidence that this apparatus will work in the normal configuration as my drives are configured - no jumper strips. It does nothing and just sits there.I read other reviews that are ecstatic about the product and several that say the motors on many are inadequate or defective. I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with the Sabrent 5 in 1 and find their website lacking in any help, drivers and information.Good luck to all who hope this is a wonder. To me it is a complete and utter DUD....more info
- Sabrent USB-to-IDE Fried My Hard Drive
I hooked this up to my SATA hard drive and everything worked fine - no complaints. However, when I plugged it in to my IDE drive, I immediately smelled smoke. I unplugged the drive and looked at the bottom - one of the chips was melted. It's hard to believe a few bad reviews over 150 five star reviews, but I think it's great that people bother to post their bad experiences so that others will know the risks. If you choose to buy this product, for your own sake, try it out first on an old drive that you don't care about. It beats the alternative....more info
- Could use some work
Pros: Well, my computers (Vista and XP) both instantly recognized it and installed it. No disk or hassles required. It treated the drive just like any other external hard drive. I don't have to fiddle with or break open the case on my computers to test or use spare drives. I liked that there were lights that showed when a drive was actually connected and working so you didn't have to guess.
Cons: Don't take this the wrong way. This is a geek's product and you'd expect the items that included to be used by Geeks, but the power connector for the PATA drive has loose pins. You have to fiddle with it some to get the power cable to go in. There were little sparks whenever I connected or disconnected a drive. Not cool. I'd like to see a safer on/off switch say somewhere on the Transformer. Suffice it to say, I'd plug the 110 into the wall last to keep the sparks as far away as possible. Drive will spin-up no matter if the USB is connected or not. So, plug power into drive, plug power adapter into wall, then SATA cable to adapter, and finally USB into computer. A longer SATA cable would also have been nice. The one that came with the kit was NOT the one in the picture. I got one about 2-3", not the 6-8" that it looks like from the picture. One final beef is that the USB cable could have been longer so that I could set the drive on the desk instead of on the ground by the computer case. All that said, the product works fine as described and I'd still have bought it over some of the other products out there....more info
- Does the Job!

- works like a charm
I had an old 2.5 IDE hdd from a laptop that had crashed, and I needed to get the information off of it. Rather than spend 50 dollars on a dock that only reads IDE drives, I instead came across and purchased this cable set. It works like a charm, and a few of my friends have even borrowed it to recover their own lost information. A great product in which I will surely use in the future, especially because it includes the SATA interface as well....more info
- Cable Converter Adapter
My sister-in-law desktop tower crashed and needed her files that she had on the main drive. She manages three mobil home parks and she put all her eggs in one basket - Oops! I was able to connect to her hd via Converter Adapter to my pc usb connection. It was a breeze to copy and back up all her files to cd. I would recommend this product to those have a pc crash due to a faulty power supply, etc.......more info

- Sabrent USB - DSC5
This is a must have tool for people needing to transfer data from other drives, or add software from a drive to netbooks. I have it hooked to my Acer Aspire One as I write this.
I work on computers and all consumer electronics, and this gem is one of those adapters that I can't do without.
Excellent shielding on the USB cord (it's clear, you may see it!) and status LEDs on the adapter module make operation a no-brainer.
Highly recommended, and if there were a 10-star rating, this adapter would get it.
- Cable adapter
Works as described . . . after a little detective work with the choice of connectors and sparse manual....more info
- Inexpensive and it works!
OK, I admit, I was a bit of a doofus in getting it hooked up correctly, but when I did - viola! It worked - and it worked perfectly. (OK, I admit - I had to read a few reviews as the documentation isn't too clear.)
I'm constantly replacing/upgrading drives, and this will be a huge timesaver.

- Great tool for your repair kit
I have a home computer repair business, and this is a great addition to the kit. It's not made to be a permanent solution, but it is great for backing up data, cloning drives etc. I think some of the bad reviews may be that some people are forcing the power plug in the wrong way. I have bought 2 and both are doing great....more info
- Works ok
This adapter works ok, but with a 3 1/2 IDE drive (the only type I tried it on) the adapter and the power connector slightly foul each other. This makes it difficult to seat them both. ...more info

- Great Data recovery tool
This does exactly what it's supposed to do. Very helpful. I had several old 3.5" drives from old desktops sitting around from over the years. This made it simple and quick to transfer the data to my laptop.
I found the customer reviews very helpful, especially the instructions on how the jumpers should be set for Western Digital drives.
Thanks again for making it easy.
Highly reccommend this product!...more info
- Does exactly what it says
I had some old IDE drives laying around and wanted to get data off them without requiring a case with drive bays. This did the job. It's not meant to be a premanent connection to replace a hard drive enclosure so don't buy it expecting that....more info
- IDE/SATA USB connector
This is one of the best things I've bought. The package contained everything you need for lightning fast connection of both IDE and Sata drives (2.5 and 3.5). I absolutely recommend this package for anyone who wants simple connectivity of extra drives without having to perform any initialization and compatibility tasks. AAAA++++...more info
- Sabrent USB-DSC5 SATA Adapter
Who ever thought this kit up deserves a reward. It was very easy to hook up once I figured it out, (the directions left a little to be desired) but once hooked up and the process started it worked like a charm. What is nice about it is that you can make it work on any size drive. It has to be added to my list of one of the best things I ever bought....more info
