i have found there is a leaarning curve when upgrading from a previous addition of Office. The biggst difference is the grouping of functions, and the use of toolbars instead of drop down menus. But once you learn where funtions are located it is very intuative.
The program also backwards compatable, in my case i updated from "Office 97" with no problem.
- it didn't work and it doesn't deserve 1 star
I ordered what I thought was a new Microsoft office 2007 - Full Version. I received an envelope with a copy of a disk in it with a Microsoft authorization key. I don't believe it is a legal copy. I asked for a refund and return instructions. I emailed my request to the seller and was asked "Huh, who are you?". Included in the email was the amazon order number. ...more info
Did lots of research and weighed the pros and cons. Decided to give this a try as I liked the programs packaged in the suite. Installation was easy but there is no mention of what's on the 2nd disc. Well, it's the Office Accounting software for Small Business. Wanted that as I thought it would help with budgeting and online banking. My bank isn't in the confining list of predefined banks in the software. So, this software is useless (to me) and a waste of money. Also, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc., all have an issue when starting up. I get a pop up window saying "installation in progress" for about 2 minutes. Then another pop up that says "small business setup in progress" and that runs for about 2 minutes. It can take up to 5 minutes for one of the office products to open up. I'm running Vista 32bit with Core 2 Quad Q6600 processors, 2.5gig of memory and about a terabyte of storage (HP m9150f). I've had a case open with Microsoft for about 2 weeks now. I've done everything they've wanted, but so far no luck in eliminating these pop ups. Then once the product is up, I get these same pop ups when I try to do something. I do a send/receive in Outlook and the pop ups occur. And those occur for another minute or two. Ridiculous! The new "rib...more info
- starting a business
I'm starting a business, and chose to buy the full version rather than upgrade because of the price. I've been using Office XP and Office 2003 for years ... Office 2007 is significantly different, and I'm still fairly low on the learning curve. There are some things I'm sure I could do, if I just knew how ... and some things I just wish were done differently. That being said, the programs clearly have far more capabilities than I will ever use, but I felt this was a good time to bring my software up-to-date. I use a Palm PDA, but I decided to switch my calendar and contacts over to Outlook ... partly for some additional features, but also because Palm seems to be abandoning it's Palm Desktop application....more info

- Not for a former expert...dumbed down and scrambled up
I'm an expert user of version 2003. Our work computers are now v2007. So far, there are at least 4 things that I used to use/do on a daily basis that are not available in 2007 (e.g., no drawing or tables tool bars) making my job infinitely more difficult and slower. I learn quickly, but this program is not intuitive when changing from 2003. For example, why would "page break" be on one ribbon and all the rest (e.g., the variety of section breaks) somewhere else. The whole list of choices is there somewhere (I found it once), but finding it takes way too much time. When I am in a time crunch (typically) I take my work home to use my 2003. Why isn't there at least an option for the old style menu so those of us who used to be experts could get up to speed more easily. I've been using 2007 for about 6 weeks now and have been acutely wary of the change over phenomenon that creates resistence to using something new. I've really tried. I've used several kinds of external programs designed to help find things (including the 2007 help menu). This helps occassionally, but I often get the answer that this function is no longer available in the 2007 version. I'm thinking I need to bring my own computer to work to get something done. Avoid 2007 if you can....more info

I purchased this product hoping that it would fix some of the code deficiencies of Word 2003. It seems to, but hard to tell yet. I find the new navigation system and toolbars nice looking but clumsy to navigate. The GUI is claimed to be more intuitive and I suppose that it is good for someone who has never used MS Word, but for someone who has used Word for 15+ years it offers few advantages, takes more key strokes and time, and uses more memory while offering few true advantages over its predecessor....more info

- Offensively incompetent software design, do not touch this
Sorry Microsoft, but your "ribbon" user interface is the most retarded upgrade feature ever. It renders all your Office applications useless. I have no interest spending hours to learn a completely different UI and to recustomize the toolbar all over again (I'm not even sure if it's even possible to customize the "ribbon"). The ribbon is ugly and WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY too big.
My advice: try to avoid upgrading for as long as possible....more info

The product is generally good, but it has some problem that causes it to crash often. The Microsoft support people are very good about trying to help fix the problem and have continued to assist me in fixing the problem. Might be best to try a different version of the product if you don't want to deal with crashes....more info
- Swallowtrip was no help!
I would like to say I could give a review, but I never recieved the product from Swallowtrip. It would have been nice to know how they were sending the product or have some tracking info. I waited for a month and never recieved the product. The only way to contact Swallowtrip it by emailing through Amazon. I got one response from them and I sent them 3 other emails with no response. I don't recommend buying through Swallowtrip. Fortunately, Amazon took care of the refund....more info
- Great product, works well with ScanSnap (Acrobat)
I've used various versions of Word and Excel for more than 15 years. This version looks quite a bit different, especially in the menu bar. But after a brief learning curve, the functionality is improved and I use fewer mouse clicks and keystrokes to get a menu item accomplished.
Several months ago I bought a Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 which is a great product. I mention it here because Word and Excel both have specific menu functions related to Adobe Acrobat (a fully functional version comes with the ScanSnap). The ability to create a pdf document from within Word or Excel with two mouse clicks is probably the feature I like best about this version of Microsoft Office....more info
- Orifice 2007
After all these years, the trolls in Redmond still have not learned how to produce user-friendly software. There was no reason to make the changes to Office that they've made; it was simply a way to justify an unnecessary upgrade that has turned out to be a downgrade. Users with a moderate understanding of how Office operated will find themselves flummoxed when attempting to do things they had finally learned how to do in the old version.
The much-vaunted ribbons are confusing and counter-intuitive. Microsoft addresses this problem by offering free self-paced trainng courses, apparently oblivious to the fact that time iS money, unless of course, it's Microsoft's time.
At the very least, one expects backward compatibility, that is unless you're dealing with Mr. Bill's minions. I loaded Word files created with Office XP, only to find the Office 2007 converted them with serious defects, like inserting tabs in all paragraphs whenever you inserted one in a single paragraph. And, of course, if you delete a tab stop from one paragraph, you delete it from all of them.
Useless. ...more info

I have used Office products throughout my career. Now that I am undertaking the responsibility of my own business I wanted a software program that would do it all. I tried out trial first and poked around alot to make sure it would be worth the investment. I have been pretty happy with it over all. The only reason I wouldn't give it five stars is because I haven't yet used the accounting program yet. ...more info
