I bought this last month @ $79.99 and at that price point it made a lot of sense for me. I got this scanner mainly for my Acura TL, but unfortunately, since I don't live in the US, it cannot scan my other vehicles, as they are not models sold over there. Also, the online tool which lets you keep a register of your car can only be activated if you have a valid US license plate.
Other than that, the scanner lives up to its billing perfectly. I particularly liked the code erasing ability and the fact that it shows you right there on the screen what the code means....more info

- It gives the codes, but thats all!
I bought this because we have 2 older cars and dont really forsee a reason to buy a new one right now. I do most of the maintence work on the cars since things are tight. It gives the codes, but if you want a frezze frame or a PC printout, you will need to register at the company's website. Forget the disk that comes with the reader, its worthless. ...more info
- Equus 3100 OBDII scanner
OBDII scanner is exactly as advertised. I was having trouble with emissions on my 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser, and decided it was time to make the investment in a code scanner. After reading the reviews, I decided on the Equus 3100. The scanner was very easy to use, after reading the codes, I was able to connect the unit to my laptop and read all the supporting data as well. I ended up replacing both pre and post catalytic converter oxygen sensors, which resolved the problem. ...more info
- Code reader
Like most people who purchase these devices, I had a "Check Engine" light on in an old Toyota ('96) auto. I followed the directions, used the code reader to identify the problem (a bad oxygen sensor), and was able to effect repairs and cancel the "Check Engine" light. I have since loaned the device to a friend who does a lot of work on cars and trucks of various makes. He seems to have liked it since it took several months to reclaim it. I have never used any other brand of reader so I have no basis of comparison, but for my purposes this device worked as advertised, and was rather easy to use....more info
- OBD-II is a great tool!
After much investigation, I chose to go with the model 3100 OBD-II. Out of the box it performed extremely well. I have responsibility for four vehicles and each one I checked proved to me that I did not waste my money. The on-line log that I can keep on the vehicles that I check should prove to be a valuable tool. Great product!...more info
- A Lot for the money
I've worked on cars for a living before, though not currently. I've used the 'professional' tools, by Snap On and the the GM Tech 1 scanner and this won't really compare to them. You have no 'real time' access but if you just want to easily read the codes and see what's going on, it's great. You can also easily clear the faults, of course the CEL will come right back on if you have not dealt with the problem, but it's a nice ability to have. I bought it for a specific car that I've still not fixed yet but I have diagnosed and fixed two others (working on two more). For the cost this is a worthy addition to any 'semi-serious' auto repair person or hobbyist....more info
- Why I gave it only 1 star......
I've never owned a scan tool and bought this one because of this statement in the advertising: This powerful and rugged tool quickly reveals the cause of "Check Engine" light warnings on any 1996 and newer car, light truck, or SUV--foreign and domestic. (and because of good reviews)
I have a 1999 VW Beetle and it Does Not work at all on it. It worked just fine on my 2008 Chevy Equinox, but I wanted it mainly for my Bug. That's why I gave it 1 star - because their statement is not true. It does NOT work on ANY 1996 or newer cars and it really irritates me when something is falsely advertised.
Had I bought it just for my Equinox, I would have given it 5 stars as it worked with no problem at all and was very easy to use.
If you are a VW owner - don't buy it....more info

- Works Great So Far
I just took this out of the box and used it to retrive codes from my Volvo S70 T5. The codes arn't very descriptive, but you can look them up no problem. I fixed the problem, cleared the codes and havn't used it since. Great for the do-it-yourselfer...more info
Only used it once and it seems to work fine. Can't speak for the long term or how it may work on other vehicles. Would buy again....more info
- Equus 3100 Code Reader
Equus 3100 Innova Diagnostic Code Reader with Memory Backup for OBDII (Post-1996) Vehicles I bought this diagnostic code reader to check on my wife's car check engine light. I found a little difficulty understanding the owner's manual, but nothing worse than any manual I have gotten with items lately. The hardest part in using the device was finding the place to plug it in the car, which is not the fault of Eqqus. The reader arrived at its conclusion quickly and let me know what had triggered the light. Hopefully I will not need this machine very often, but I am glad to have it handy....more info
- Helpful,fun, auto gadget
The diagonstic code reader is a "fun" tool to use. It is amazing to see how it checks out the functions of your engine. Therefore when you go to the garage you can speak to the mechanic with some degree of knowledge! Also you can know when you need not go to a garage, such as when you bought "bad" gas!...more info
- Well worth the $
The same unit is sold at all the major auto parts stores for anywhere from $120 to $160 and most shops now charge a $80-$90 diagnostic fee for plugging in a similar tool.
This tool is easy to use and has some great features for the price. Use it once and you break even!...more info
- Equus 3100 Innova Diagnostic Code Reader Works Great
I purchased this product to diagnose a check engine light on my 2006 Ford F-350 6.0 Litre Diesel. Prior to purchasing the unit I replaced my breather filter. The vehicle had close to 20,000 miles on the original filter. This is what apparently flagged the check engine light during a hard acceleration up a steep grade.
I received the product very quickly (sooner than expected). I read the booklet enough to use the product (very important as improper use may damage vehicle and/or reader). Code reader indicated what the problem "was" (I had already fixed the problem but was not sure without the code reader). I researched the error code on the internet and then cleared the check engine light. All went as advertised. Without this device I would have needed to make a trip to the dealership for nothing (of course with much expense). This device paid for itself in its first use. Great product. Easy to use....more info
- Works great

- Good Code Reader
I was able to diagnose my problem and make a repair that the mechanic wanted $400 to maybe fix. Use this product with online automotive forums to assist with your repairs. I also reset the codes and hopefully made all the repairs my aunt needed on her van. Easy to use. Great company website....more info
- Great tool - great price!
Needed to read a diagnostic code from a '96 Caprice. Equus 3100 worked right out of the box. Just plugged it in and found the source of the check engine light - corrected it and then erased the code....more info
- Great product
The Equus 3100 Innova is the only diagnostic tool I have owned. But I really like it from what I've seen so far. I like the fact that it will scan your car's computer by the power it gets from the car. Keeps the information on the scanner with the battery power and allows you to clear the information saved to scan another car, or repeat the same scan after you've made any repairs. It is really easy to use and clear the MIL on your car. Great product!!...more info
- great meter, easy to use
This meter works great -- I've used it on my 1998 Prelude and a friend's 2001 Prius. With both vehicles it connected quickly and the built-in code database was able to give text translations of everything except one of the Prius's mfg-specific codes. Definitely a great value for the price....more info
- Works As Advertised
This tool is so easy to use. Just plug it in and it tells you everything you need to know to find out what is making the "Check Engine Light" come on. It will tell you the code and an explanation right on the screen. This is a must have for anyone buyimg a used car as it also tells you potential codes. Best part is it will clear the codes when you are done looking at them....more info
- VERY basic unit with No other features.
This is a very basic OBD scantool. It can read an OBD code number IF an error has been stored and it allows you to reset it. That's about it. It can't read ANY of the very useful features and data that are available using the OBD protocol such as engine temp, rpm, percent engine load, throttle position, oxygen sensor voltage, lean, rich trim data, MAF sensor and EGR valve position, total mis-fire counts per cylinder, etc. Most vehicles have over 80 variables that can be displayed and slightly higher end OBD readers (for $120) can do 50x more functions.
I was very surprised the model 3100 retails for over $80 since looking at the feature set I was expecting about $29. It can not check battery voltage, mpg, speed, vacuum, RPM, or anything else even though the data is there if they design the unit to use it. This one has NO real-time display of anything other than if the O2 sensor control is in open or closed loop mode. I'll give it credit that it can display ONE set of predefined OBD data if a code has been set. This is basically a snapshot of data that your engine control computer stored and the unit can read this on some vehicles. This gets stored at the time the code was set. But there is No other info and no real-time data at all. And if no code is set then there is nothing you can do with this reader since it has no other functions. On my car which was running fine at the time, it simply said, "There are no codes stored". That was it.
There are far better products for less money. Some that cost less than this unit can be left plugged in like an extra set of gauges and they display your mpg or a host of other data depending what you select.
The people that gave this a glowing review probably don't have a lot of background troubleshooting or designing vehicle electronics and control systems, while Ive been working on electronic control systems for years. So it displayed a trouble code number and they are happy, and I'm glad they like it. But do a little research online and you'll find units with 95% more features for the same or less money and another $30 would get you a really useful tool. Some can display and store parameters for looking at later or talking over with your mechanic. Other units will interface to a laptop or PDA using a USB or serial port if you want to save the data or make a chart. I use them to record the main engine data while it's running fine to have a baseline to compare to later if there is a problem. Anyway, this one works for 1 main function and that's it. So it's overpriced for what it does.
- Worked great for 2001 Dodge Caravan
The product worked. It got the correct codes from my 2001 Dodge Caravan. I was able to determine the problem and fix it. I then reset the status. It was that simple. All the pieces, including the cable, connection, etc. worked....more info
- Payed for itself on first use
I bought INNOVA 3100 about 2 weeks ago because my MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) was on. Plugged it in after reading the manual. It said Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Heater was bad. Called Mitsubishi dealer: Cost of part $317.43 plus 30 minutes of shop time. Looked up a replacement on internet at a cost of $37 plus $10 for a special socket to remove and replace. Another $7 for a Sears crimping tool and I replaced the part and saved over $228 plus I have the INNOVA to use over and over again.
Some reviewers have said that they can't save reports in their computer. There is now a button on the INNOVA supplied program to "Save to File." This makes a test file of about 17 different test results. It is in .txt format and you can copy and paste it into a Word document if you want to dress up the format.
Both the PC CD and the tool worked fine right out of the box. The unit comes with two cables: One to plug into the OBD2 socket under the dashboard of your car, and the other to plug into a USB socket on your PC. The INNOVA has built in memory to save readings obtained during a drive and then subsequently provide the data to your PC.
I am VERY PLEASED to give this unit FIVE STARS....more info
- Highly recommended!
Plugged this in to my 2005 volvo s60r and instantly got the reason why my engine light was on. It was a minor problem so I cleared it out of my car's computer and no more engine light. The volvo place charges $100 EACH time just to run a diagnostic test so this has already paid for itself. It's very easy to use and I'd recommend this unit to anybody looking for an ODB2/CAN reader. It also tells you in plain english on the screen what the trouble code is, no looking up numbers like some readers....more info
- Equus code reader
I purchased this from Amazon and have NO problems with it. It arrived on time. However, I had conflicting reports from amazon and the company. The company was correct. Amazon was wrong. Next time I may go straight to the company and skip Amazon. I don't like getting there run around. ...more info
- works! saves time and money ( eases stress, too)
I bought thtis product because I had this annoying message popped up once in my 2005 accord saying "check fuel cap". eventually went away after 3 days.( I didn't get my tool soon enough}, anyway, I had an occasion to use it as I was changing my power steering fluid on my 07 g35 and required me to undo the air filter, ran the engine with the air box undone and I got a "service engine soon" light , that I was able to erase instead of waiting 3 days or going to the dealership and waste my time waiting. ( I knew what caused the problem), if you have used this product more than once, then it would have paid for itself for your time for the trip to a mechanic or dealership. everyone should have one and highly recommended!!!...more info
- Better than I expected
I was pleased when this arrived and discovered that it must be a newer version of the 3100 model. The one pictured and described on Amazon.com and even the Equus Innova websites is the 3100c. The one I received is the 3100a which has some of the features of the 3110 such as the larger display with onscreen definitions and instructions and the ability to display freeze frame data. You can also search the code library on the device.
Thanks to Amazon.com for offering this for a reasonable price(it was $41 less than what I found at a local auto parts store).
The product has worked well so far in showing me why my vehicle wasn't "READY" for the annual emissions test. I had disconnected my battery while servicing the vehicle a little over a week before the test and felt confident that I had driven enough during that time for all the readiness monitors to be satisfied. After using this tool I discovered that none of the monitors were detected. This was due to the fact that I have a Superchips custom tuning device that must have somehow disabled the monitors. After returning to the stock tuning the monitors were displayed and I did a drive cycle and watched as they were satisfied.
The software and usb cable included with the tool allow you to import the data saved in memory and view, save and print out a report. You can also upgrade the firmware of the tool if needed.
The only CON that I noticed and this is a very minor one is the lack of a backlight for the display....more info
- Must have and easy to use!
The last trip to the local dealer cost me 165.00 to get a repair estimate of 2550.00 which ultimately cost me 640.00 to have repaired at an outside shop. When my check engine light came on I knew it was time to invest in this tool. This tool is very easy to use and basically boils down to plugging it into the diagnostic terminal in your vehicle and turning the ignition key on. Follow the prompts to select the vehicle type then let the reader do it's thing. The reader will display any hard codes(existing problems) and pending codes(potential problems). Once you retrieve the codes you can do a little research and determine if it's something you might want to tackle yourself or leave to the professionals. The check engine light went out while I was waiting for the tool to arrive. I was still able to retrieve a trouble code and could make a determination whether or not it was something that needed immediate attention.
The program used to upload the info from the reader to your computer is called Teklink and comes on the supplied CD. About the upgrade, it consists of replacing the Teklink program with a program called Repair Solutions. Just click on the Tools button in Teklink then the Upgrade button. You'll be connected to the website. According to the website, this program provides more comprehensive information such as pinpointing why the check engine light came on, get a better understanding of why the failure occurred and what parts and tools are required to make the correct repairs. There are a couple of caveats though. The change is permanent. You cannot go back to the Teklink program except for information on vehicles previously diagnosed using Teklink. There are limits as to how many vehicles you can diagnose using Repair Solutions. According to the website, you can register 3 vehicles to your account and create 3 reports per vehicle per month. You may replace vehicles on your account(delete an old one and add a new one)two times per calendar year. There does not appear to be any such limitations using the Teklink program. I don't plan on using this tool more than that but I would like to have that option. For this reason, I chose not to upgrade to the new program at this time so I can't comment on it.
All in all this is a great tool and a must have for DIYers. Even if you don't intend on doing your own repairs this would be a great tool to have. This way you'll have a good idea of what the problem is and help prevent getting ripped off by unscrupulous dealers and repair shops. ...more info
- Must have!
If you work on cars you must get one. I got it for my boyfriend and loves it, it helps to know whats wrong when theres so many different things it could be! It doesn't pin point, but it gives you the general idea of where the promblem is then go from there. Stop wasting time searching every possible thing!...more info
- Great OBD tester
I had a check engine light pop up on me one morning driving in the snow, and really wanted to address what could cause it. I've used friends OBD testers previously, and made the choice to get one for myself. I checked with local auto parts stores, and similar OBD tools were running at least twice the list price I paid on Amazon. The Innova was very simple to use and the results on-screen required no lookups to determine what was up.
All in all, very worth the price....more info
- Excellent Product
It works exactly as it should. I now don't have to go to other places to diagnose a vehicle. I recommend it and the price was reasonable.

The CanOBD2 Dignosis Tool is cool. It saved me money and even made me some!!! My friends come to me to scan their cars and even give me donations! But seriously, its awesome for its price. I was able to scan my car and figure out what was wrong it and using the car repair manual that I also bought on Amazon.com it saved me what would normally be[...] at the mechanics (for parts and labor) to only $47 in parts. Using the repair manual, I was able to do the labor repair myself!!
The only down fall is that the software that the tool comes with, is not compatible with Windows Vista as of yet. I spoke to the technical support from [...] and he assured that it was being worked on. So hopefully they do make it compatible, but if you have a MAC or Windows XP you're good to go.
I really recommend this to everyone. It saves you money and when used with your specific car repair manual you can be your own mechanic and do it yourself!!!...more info
