Customer Reviews:

  • This version is NOT for the TOUCH
If you have a newer iPod, you want the version with the BLUE frequency display (I believe you can find it on Amazon as the Griffin 4045 model Griffin 4045-TRPAUTOS iTrip Auto FM Transmitter with SmartScan for iPod). Apparently I got lucky and this was the one I bought-- but I paid $80 for it when they first came out. I just got a new TOUCH and luckily it charges it no problem :). However my friend who also got a TOUCH and my other griffin charger-- it didn't work. So I'm hunting for another iTrip (with BLUE numbers like mine) so he can use it with the TOUCH.

The auto-scanning feature of this unit ROCKS!!!!! Most other FM broadcasters have YOU do the tuning (while you are driving...) to find an empty station. This one does it for you. It tells you what station to tune to!

It does have sporadic transmitting issues, but that is because of strong local stations and bleeding of those stations into your private FM broadcasting. No big deal, just auto-tune to a better station... and away you go....more info
  • Great Product!!
I have an Iphone 3g and it works very well in my car, no static just clear sound....more info
  • Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter and Auto Charger for iPod
The Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter and Auto Charger for iPod works great and the oder was fast! Thank you!...more info
  • Works great wiith iPhone Original Model(Generation 1)
Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter and Auto Charger for iPod works great with iPhone. This product plays my iPhone on my car stereo and charges on the go. Transmission is great and I don't see any problem with the sound quality....more info
  • Trasmitter works great!
The audio is crisp and clear. The signal is way better than any of the other transmitters I bought that were more expensive. Be sure to follow the review by Eric William. He tells you how to get the best performance out of this thing, and it works!...more info
  • The Best FM Transmitter I have used
ipod FM transmitters are a hit or miss issue. You can judge that easily from the evidently polarised ratings it has. With over 70 1 star reviews, I really had to think twice before ordering this product. But am really grateful that I did order this product.

To use the cliche, yes, It works like a charm. I had no static, no sound quality problems or signal strength issues. I drive a 2003 Toyota Corolla, and have also tested it on a few rental American cars, and am yet to have a bad experience with this product.

I haven't used the famous guidelines given in Eric Williams' review yet, because the need has not arisen. I am using stereo sound, and using it in the US mode, and it is yet to give any problems.

Having used two other transmitters in the past with poor results, am very satisfied with the Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter and Auto Charger...more info
  • great gadget
This is one of the few gizmos that allows you to listen to your IPOD in the car while charging it. Plus, this allows you the freedome of getting the IPOD closer to you to change songs versus the other versions that make you dock the IPOD near the car lighter. Only downside is that the frequency starts at 88.1. That happens to be a problem here in Phoenix. Would be better to go down to 87.5....more info
  • Can't get it to work with my car
The transmitter is very easy to use.
Unfortunately it doesn't work with my car. No matter what frequency I select, my 2006 Volvo XC90 radio cannot get a reliable signal from it. It's like listening to a very remote radio station - the transmission is getting broken all the time. Probably issue is with how antenna is located in this particular car as other people are saying it does work....more info
  • Great product, especially for the price!
For the cheap price, this product is very nice! I get very clear sound out of this, as long as I am on the International Mode!!!

One downside is that this WILL NOT CHARGE my 4th Gen. Ipod Nano... But I don't leave my ipod in my car, so I can always just charge it when I get home....more info
  • Not compatible with Iphone 3G
The main problem with this product is that it does not charge the Iphone while it is plugged up. It will however still play music through your car stereo. The sound quality is the same as an fm radio station, maybe a little worse. But I think that is the case will all products like this.

I could not get the music to play very loud without some noticable hissing. Playing around with the Iphone's EQ settings helps a bit, but will not cure the problem.

The main problem is that it does not charge the iphone. If the thing charged the iphone it would probably get 4 stars....more info
  • Griffin iTrip
This is a great transmitter! It has a strong output signal so you don't need to worry about static. And it's also a bonus that it charges your iPod while in use. One thing that I don't particularly like about it though is that it only has an input end for iPods and not just a generic audio jack, so it won't work with any other audio device. ...more info
  • Excelent reception and ease of use
I have tried out other FM transmitters for iPod and none did work that great in my car, as it has the antenna in the back side of the car and the signal of the transmitters wasn't strong enough to assure clear reception.

The Griffin iTrip is doing a great job though, clear and strong reception, with of course the occasional interference of local stations. It's use is pretty straight forward and easy, my 11 year old son can do the job.

There is one minor issue I'd love to see improved, in order to give it the full five stars: the unit has no backlight, so in many occasions it is hard to read. As one doesn't have to change so often, it's not such a big problem, but it would definitively make it an ideal option. Another issue is the fact that your car needs some place to stow away the iPod, if not better choose a transmitter with a holder.

There is one problem that this unit has caused me: now we're fighting control over the music in the car...

  • International Mode Rocks!
I've had two other transmitters before, and this is the only one where (although the quality is not quite CD quality) I don't notice that I'm using an fm transmitter after a while. Just use International mode. By the way this thing will play music from but not charge the iPhone 3g, which I don't mind. ...more info
  • Completely Useless
    Basically, it doesn't work.

The signal is so extremely weak that it can't even overtake the weakest station I could possibly find. The best I could get out of it was about 25% music from my iPod & 75% static.

We all expect some amount of static and reduction of sound quality with these FM transmitters, but this was just ridiculous. I've tried about 10 different brands of FM transmitters now, with varying degrees of success, but the Griffin iTrip had the weakest signal of them all....more info
  • Excellent Value. Exceeded my Expectations
This product is perfect for people that don't have an MP3 jack in their car. It is simple to use and very inexpensive. Sound quality is "good", yet it still exceeded my expectations. I drive into Boston every day with almost no interference to the signal. Is this going to provide you with perfect sound? No. Will it give you more than your moneys worth? Absolutely. Much cheaper option than having a jack installed for between $100-350. I paid about $19 dollars(which included shipping)...more info
  • It Charges!
Easy to use right out of the box. I love the fact that it charges - no more conserving ipod energy on long trips!...more info
  • Best Transmitter Ever!!!
I've tried different transmitters from belkin brand and a few others that costed much more than this one. All I have to say is that I was very happy with this one! I did the international setup as suggested on amazon and it works perfectly. I would recommend this to everyone for the price and quality....more info
  • Useless
While this was received promptly from the vendor as promised, it was completely ineffective for the stated use. No matter what open channel I tuned in, the sound was barely audible. I had to crank the volume all wth way up to hear any music, and then the static blasted me away. It's possible that the problem is that I live in a major metropolitain area with lots of readio stations...could be interfering. Whatever the reason, these are useless....more info
  • Fried 2 iPods
This transmitter has been bad for me. There is a lot of static, the wiring tore at the base where it connects to the iPod, and it now seems to be the culprit in frying two iPods. Will not buy again....more info
  • great product!
I bought this product last month and was a little unsure about how good it would work based on other reviews but i must say that i am extremely pleased with the sound quality and how easy the device is to use. It works with my ipod nano (and charges it) and it works with my daughters ipod touch 2nd gen although it won't charge the ipod touch. I have not had any problem whatsoever with static or low sound- it sounds just as good as my cd's and works 100% consistently. ...more info
  • Best FM transmitter I have used.
I have tried many FM transmitters and this one is by far the best. In the city I live, I have never been able to use the 88.1 frequency with other transmitters. This one I plugged it in and tuned my radio to 88.1 and it was crystal clear sound. I then used it on a 3 hour drive and I did not have any problems with static or any thing. Great product....more info
  • Not as good as my old Itrip
The company was prompt no problem with them. The product however does not work very well. I have tried several stations and it fades. Maybe I got what I paid for....more info
  • Griffin iTrip is an excellent product!
I have been using the Griffin iTrip FM transmitter with my 30gb iPod video and it works perfect. When the iPod is off there is only the slightest hiss audible. I have not detected any sound quality degradation while playing music. I am located in the Portland, OR area and have not had any discernible interference in my 15 mile commute.

Set up was a snap - when I turned it on it was set to 88.1 and it turned out that was the best frequency to use. I actually tried it on 88.3, which is the frequency that my trunk mounted CD changer transmits on, but it did not block out the station there, so I guess the iTrip's signal is not as strong as the Sony CD changer. (The CD changer was set years before on that unused frequency before the new radio station began to transmit, but since it didn't interfere I never cared to change it.

The only other issue is that some of the songs do not play loudly enough, but that appears to be a factor of the audio download. I turn up the iPod's volume all the way and the radio all the way but some songs just don't get loud enough. However, other songs are plenty loud, so it isn't the iTrip's fault.

I recommend this product without reservation....more info
  • extremely poor
The product that I purchased does not work well. It is very noisy so you can barely hear the music....more info
  • Product works great!
I was skeptical about this product because of the low price. But it is everything it said it was. Every once in awhile I might get some static but other than that it works wonderful...more info
  • Great seller, OK product
Seller was awesome... product came quickly and as promised. Product however is not as desirable as once thought. Not that great for trips, because you're constantly having to find a new channel that isn't plagued with a radio station. Plus, the transmitter doesn't go below 88.1FM... there are open stations below that, but I can't use them....more info
  • Great price, great product
We chose this product because it allows you to charge your iPod while you use it, while with other more expensive ones you need to get the charger separately. It has worked great both in the city and on the road, and it's extremely easy to use! No use in paying more when this one works so well!...more info
  • IPOD FM tuner
Works pretty well. Still get a little static. Haven't tried the trick suggested on the website. Will try....more info
  • Works Well for the Price
I live in a large metropolitan area and have had no trouble getting the iTrip to work in my car. There are usually at least a few stations I can use, and it works much better than the belkin transmittor I originally had (and returned). We've used it on the road, as well, and were also able to find stations in rural areas. Every once in a while I'll drive through an area with a lot of interference, which can be annoying, but it doesn't last for long. ...more info
  • Does Not Work!
I had high hopes for this little device but no dice! I was even able to place it on International setting to use a lower bandwidth. The result was very low volume and constant static. Perhaps its better in rural areas without a million radio stations but not in LA!....more info
  • Awesome product!
    I recommend this product 100%.
I lost my old iTrip and didn't hesitate for one second to buy the same kind again.
    Great product!...more info
  • Won't Charge Nano 4th!! Otherwise Works Great!
The item description doesn't say that it won't charge my 4th generation Nano, which is a dissapointment, but the transmitter function still works great. I followed the instructions and found three stations in a row with static. I set the transmitter to the middle station and get crystal clear sound. After discovering this problem, I searched this item's reviews and see others have the same problem. I also found Iphone charging issues too (which I did not test), so Iphone owners should also search others' reviews....more info
