Product Description

The Flash II has got to be one of the coolest knives we've ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button. The Flash II comes standard with glass-reinforced Zytel handle and 1/2 serrated, black TiNi blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG's patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. We also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed

Sog's Flash line of folding knives feature their exclusive Sog Assisted Technology, a mechanism that helps propel the blade open once you have initiated the one-handed opening action. It's fast, safe, and provides an extremely strong blade lock. When closed, the blade is held securely inside the handle.

A bolt action lock is easily released with a sliding button while an additional safety lock provides added security when the blade is closed. When the switch shows red, you are ready to go. The handles of this knife are molded from glass reinforced Zytel and are contoured with ergonomic sensibility, making it comfortable to use. A reversible, bayonet-mounted clip extends from the back of the handle for carrying low and discreet while dual-thumb studs allow for an ambidextrous opening.

About Sog
Sog originally stood for Studies and Observation Group, an elite joint services military group designed for covert operations in the Vietnam War. Sanctioned to develop and purchase their own equipment, Sog created a knife for use in one of the harshest environments in the world. SOG Assisted Technology for Speed and Safety
Fast, safe, one-handed opening makes SOG Flash Series knives incredibly easy to handle in a wide variety of situations. Once you start opening the knife, SOG's Patented SOG Assisted Technology, or S.A.T., takes over. Through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs in the knife, the force to propel the knife open becomes greater than the closing force, and the blade will open on its own. This unique feature means that if you are using your dominant hand on another task, you can just as easily open the TFSA-98 with your other hand.

For security and peace of mind, S.A.T. was developed in conjunction with a superior locking system. The unique design of S.A.T. knives allows them to use locking mechanisms that are stronger, more reliable, and easier to access ambidextrously than conventional liner locks.

For Flash Series knives, this means the blade is held in place with a reliable piston lock that can be released quickly with a sliding button. An additional safety lock offers extra security when the blade is closed. For easy reference, the lock switch shows red when the knife is ready to open.

Cryogenic Heat Treatment for Sharp, Dependable Blades
Of course the workhorse of any knife is the cutting surface, and the TFSA-98 offers a full, 3.5-inch, half-serrated blade finished with an elegant black, hardcased TiNi, which is a durable titanium and nickel compound.

SOG's proprietary Cryogenic Heat Treatment process ensures that this blade will stay sharp over the long haul. This intensive process takes more than 48 hours and involves slowly bringing the blade's temperature down to less than -300 degrees Fahrenheit, then bringing it slowly back to room temperature. The stress created through this process relieves the material on an atomic level and increases overall strength and edge retention.

Elegant, Ergonomic Design for Ease of Use
Even if your blade is sharp, it's hard to make the cuts you want if a knife doesn't sit comfortably in your hand. That's why the handle on this knife features a unique, ergonomic contour. Crafted from tough, glass-reinforced Zytel, the handle helps ensure that your knife is both durable and well-balanced. And it is lightly textured to prevent slippage.

At just 3.1 ounces, this folding knife is lightweight and easy to carry. A reversible, bayonet-mounted clip extends from the back of the handle, allowing the knife to sit low in your pocket for the most discreet carry possible.

This knife is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in workmanship and materials.

Customer Reviews:

  • Great pocket knife
Sharp, safe when closed, small enough to forget it's clipped to your pocket. I have had to mail this thing home from the airport several times now for that very reason. This knife is very utilitarian, useful, not cumbersome in any way. If I were to loose it, I would get another. IF you are a regular carrier of a pocket knife then you know how naked you feel without one. And this has been one of the better pocket knives I've owned. ...more info
  • Good knife at a good price
This knife fits my hand well. It is easy to grip and feels secure; especially w/ the side knurls. Opening action is smooth but, sometimes, needs operator help to fully extend. Closing is also easy. As I train using both hands, it is important that the tool fit the function and this one does so.

Yes, as noted by others, the clip does not handle lateral torsion well. Locking mechanism is a good feature but I must admit that I do forget to disengage it and wonder why it won't open. I prefer the Kershaw "Speed Bump" assisted opening mechanism.

I recommend this knife. Thr only factor preventing the full 5 Star review is opening mechanism. One further caveat - it may be too small for larger hands. ...more info
  • 1st SOG Knife
Excellent quality, Flash II Sog TFSA-98 Flash II Tini Knife perfect for jeans, Flash I might be a little smaller fit for dress pants. Spring open action is outstanding design. Great delivery 2-3 days at my door. Could not be more pleased with this purchase......more info
  • Great knife, great design
This is one of three assisted openers I've tried and is my favorite for daily use. It opens easily with the thumb studs and the lock release is convenient for one-handed closure. The mechanism is a bit of a long-term question for me as it is piston based and I think friction may take it's toll over time. That same friction also limits the speed of the deployment but it's still adequate. The clip is oriented for tip down carry (my preference) and is right or left changeable. The striping on the blade is a little hokey and I'll probably order one without but it's a minor thing. There is a safety lock for extra security but I have yet to use it as there is little chance of accidental deployment in most normal circumstances.

Overall this is a great knife and I recomend it....more info
  • THE BEST
Hands down the best knife I have ever owned. The assissted blade is great when you only have one hand to operate the knife. Lightweight and a strong blade.
I will only buy SOG knives now for my everyday carry knife. ...more info
  • I agree a very good knife
I agree with the majority of these reviews. The open assist it great. The zytel handle took a little getting used to, but the reduction in weight makes it worth it. I have carried a Benchmade knife and this knife in my pocket. You can feel the weight of the Benchmade, but not the SOG. I got a SOG Flash for my son who uses it in his work every single day, and he loves it too....more info
  • Great Knife
    Pro's
Great knife very sturdy great price.

    Con's
You do have to tighten the blade and clip every so often....more info
  • excellent knife for the price
Knife came sharp and well made. The assisted action is easy and quick. The blade lock is solid yet easy to disengage. The clip design looks like it will not loosen with wear like many clips. The steel used is a good general knife steel, but I would like to see it with a newer steel such as 154CM, S30V, or VG10....more info
  • Sog flash II
Hey everyone, this is my first post...
I purchased the Sog Flash II as my first knife and I'll write about the quality of the knife and the advertised features.

The Flash came razor sharp out of the box and is still that way. I don't know much about different types of steel, but so far there are no mark or anything on the blade.

Blade play - The knife does have a slight lateral blade play. I have not yet tried to tighten it on my own so I don't know if that would help.

S.A.T. - The assisted technology opens the knife very nicely. In my hand it feels like I push just enough and it will snap open, I don't need to push to hard and a little whimsy push won't do it so it wont' open on it's own. I've never had it open in my pocket yet or any time when I didn't want it to.

Safety lock - Useful, but very small therefore not allowing one to turn the safety off and open the knife all with one hand. However, since it won't open in your pocket anyways, one doesn't really need the safety while they think they'll be using the knife.

Handle - Very comfortable and I haven't slipped at all on it yet.

Lock - So far it is 100% reliable, only thing is it takes slightly too much pressure to close it.

Clip - Good tension. However it's starting to get a lot of lateral play and it's cracking the plastic at the bottom of the knife (due to the play). It hasn't fallen out though cause I imagine it is screwed in.

Size - Very nice size, big enough to do whatever needs to be done yet totally intrusive. When I put it in the corner of the pocket I can't feel it there at all.

Overall - A very good knife, sharp, strong and I'd recommend it. The only reasons for which I gave it 4 stars instead of five is the slight blade play and the play in the clip (since it's cracking the handle). It's certainly worth the money.

    Hope that was useful....
    Cheers...more info
  • A fun knife, but a pretty good one.
It's not the best or most practical knife in its class and price range. If I were out in the middle of the wilderness I might bring another knife. But for everyday use this is a nice, fun, and pretty good knife. It's lightweight (people that criticize the handle are being silly I think), has a big blade with a great shape and grind, decent steel, comes sharp, and the assisted opening is fun. I'd say this is a little bit more of a fun knife, but still very practical even if it isn't the most down-to-business....more info
  • don't pay extra for shipping
Don't pay extra for faster shipping. I did and my order was pushed back 4 days, Why does Amazon fudge the shipping? I'll stick with my usual vendors. At least I can call them and talk to a person....more info
  • Scary Sharp, Excellent Safety locks
I got this bad boy for Christmas a few years ago, and promptly sliced the tip of my finger off. Everything about this knife is great; smooth instant one hand opening, solid lockback, an extra safety latch when in the closed position, fairly small size but excellent heft. The only complaint I have is that there is no eyelet or ring attachment, so the knife can only be dumped in a pack or worn on a belt....more info
  • Jokes and boneheads aside
This is a great knife. I have several SOG knives and this is the one I carry every day. Razor sharp and the serration near the base of the blade is great for cutting rope, etc. The deployment mechanism is as close to a switch that you'll find. A slight thumb pressure in an opening direction and it "flashes" open. I've NEVER had it open accidentally. And if you are paranoid, there is a small flip lock for that as well. The clip is extended and hides the knife just under your pocket rim but places it in optimum position for quick access. Light, strong and SOG quality. By the way, if you are thinking the Flash I is just a little smaller, it's not. It is a lot smaller, almost a toy compared to this medium sized all around all purpose utility/defense blade. Buy it! You won't be sorry....more info
  • Flash II KNife
I bought this knife for my day pack. It opens lightning fast and is very sharp. I haven't had much chance to use it. If you are looking for an everyday carry this knife is on the large side. I would recommend the Flash I for an everyday carry knife. ...more info
  • Great Knife
Best Knife ever, but a Pain to get it sharpned (or atleast the right way) You take it to a "pro" and they grind the crap out of it (Not a good idea with this type of metal) But it comes Razor Sharp, you could shave with it.
But even all beat up its still works great, it has also got a great easy open action to it. You have to start to push the knife to comeout, but a spring pushes the knife straight and locks it (which sounds like a switch blade, but isnt, according to the law this is still a folding knife)
Has a saftey, but you can still open it in a heartbeat (one handed) Not too big not too small, you can carry it in your jeans pocket without problem, or even hook it to a belt....more info
  • Poor handle material for the SOG FSA-8 Flash 11
Poor handle material for the SOG FSA-8 Flash 11.....
...I've had this knife clipped on my pocket for just one week, and all ready I see a problem that's only going to get worse, just from sitting down and standing up with this knife clipped to my right front pocket... SOG has the best design for a pocket clip that I have ever come across, but the handle material on this model just doesn't hold up...The pocket clip is designed so that the knife will sit way down in your pocket and the handle of the knife doesn't stick up at all, which is absolutely great, but that design also puts a good amount of stress on the area where the pocket clip comes out of the handle area, and at that slot in the handle where the pocket clip comes out of the handle, I see the slot on where the clip comes out, becoming elongated and the pocket clip becoming very loose and sloppy...I feel that it won't be long before the handle material will have such a large slot in it, at the pocket clip entrance, that the clip will no longer be a part of the knife and the handle will most definitely be damaged. All this is with normal every day carrying of this model knife in my pocket for just one week. The handle material is just not strong enough to stand up to the normal stress that a pocket clip puts on the knife handle material. Other than that, this is a great EDC knife (every day carry)... ...more info
  • Sharp knife
I agree with everyone else. Well made knife. Drawbacks are the same as others. Poorly designed clip on the knife makes it very hard to remove it fast from your pocket. The lock is a little loose. All in all a super sharp knife that holds an edge well....more info
