Customer Reviews:

  • The Best

  • Very good, but not perfect
All flash drives are very useful, and this one is no exception. It is great to be able to carry around files on a small dongle and not have to worry about drivers or network access.

But, all flash drives share that same functionality, so what sets this drive apart?

Well, it is 1GB of storage. Which is quite a bit right now (I don't think I'd need more at the moment), but storage capacities always increase as time goes on, and plenty of other manufacturers offer 1GB of storage as well.

This drive is special in that it is very small and slim. You'll never have to worry about whether or not it can fit in the space provided for a USB connection. It also offers fast read/write speeds, and doesn't overly try and load you up with extra software -- you can just plug it in and browse to it. However, it does come with optional software if you want to encrypt data, which is mostly useless since it is Windows-only.

The downside of this drive (and the reason I only gave it 4 stars) is that the rubber sleeves don't stand up to the test of time very well. The sleeve has two parts. One stays on the body of the drive, and one serves as the removable cap. The part that is supposed to stay on the drive begins to slide off easily over time -- especially when inserting and removing the drive from the computer. It just seems to lose its "tightness", and becomes almost useless. The cap fares better, and actually seems to stay on. The drive comes with three different sleeves and caps, but that doesn't address the problem, it only masks it for a while, until all three are loose. It would be better if the sleeve was not a separate removable part.

Other than the sleeve issue, it is a great drive. and should meet your needs....more info
  • works with vista
This is the only flash drive I found on this site at this price point that was compatible with windows vista. However, a patch is required to allow the flash drive to work with vista. Also it needed a patch to work with both vista and xp. (I have one PC with xp and one with vista). Otherwise it seems to work great, it is fast, and the colored skins would be helpful to keep track of whose flash drive is whose....more info
  • Great Flash Drive!
Great product, easy to use...love the portability and mostly the cute skins I can change out!...more info
  • Works Great!

  • Excellent gizmo
I bought several of these for friends and family, and I kept my self a 1 GB one. I'm happy with it, fast transfer rates with USB 2.0 ports, very small and portable, and, best of all, very cheap.

I did not give it 5 stars because the protective case does not fit tighlty on them, so if you are not careful, it may fall off and you can lose it (both cap and protective case). My wife already lost 1 cap after only two weeks of use.

But on the other hand, I can agree with other reviewers in that the little thing is washer-machine safe, after my brother-in-law had his pass the laundry test, twice....more info
  • Great product but short life
I had this product for more than a year and had no problems until last month. I am unable to read the drive because of some I/O device error. On trying to get it resolved, I spent a lot of time since then troubleshooting, contacting product support, searching product issue forums etc - but havent been able to get the problem resolved. Seems I will have to scrap this piece and purchase a new one. ...more info
  • Excellent Value!
I bought this for my husband and he loves it! It's nice and small so you can easily carry it around. Also, we've tried it on our dell desktop and his HP laptop and it works perfectly on both of them. With the recent rebate, the 1 GB storage and the excellent price, you can't go wrong!...more info
  • Cruzer Micros
These are great little drives, especially for the price. The changeable covers are good if you need to use more than one....more info
  • Poor SanDisk customer service
Liked the size, and it seemed to work for the two months I've had it. But the plastic keychain hook broke, so I can't attach it to my keys -- the whole point of having it in the first place. The place I purchased it from was willing to replace it, but they no longer carried it. They said to just contact SanDisk, as it was under warranty. Called them, and they said any physical damage voids the warranty. So, I'll avoid SanDisk products from now on. Too bad, as it seemed like a decent enough drive. I'm just tired of companies that won't stand behind their products. Next time I'll buy from Amazon, which has the best customer service I've seen....more info
  • key chain end breaks easily
I bought this product 2 months ago. The memory drive worked fine, however, the loop at the end of the flash drive broke very easily. I would choose something sturdier next time. ...more info
  • Works Great
This product works great and I haven't had any trouble with it at all. It has ran perfectly on windows 2000, XP and the new vista programs. Parents, get a few for your college students!!...more info
  • Ran it through the clothes washer
    And it still works.
I've never written one of these things before, but this seemed worthy of comment....more info
  • Sandisk cruzer 1 gb
This is a great product on XP. I had one and gave it to my grandson. It was the U3 version. This version with secure software is also great, have not tested it yet on Win98SE. Seems to be some problem with Debian Linux - not immediately recognized. Need to research that....more info
  • Small and sturdy jump drive
Amazingly small and sturdy jump drive, and it is big enough to hold every thing. I will buy Sandisk again if the need arises....more info
  • Colored sleeves
Memory is great, but the sleeves come off too easily. I like the hard covers best....more info
  • great quality and easy to use
i have no need for skins so my review doesn't cover them. the drive itself is excellent - boots quickly and easily and has never given me bad sectors or files. i use it for work and for personal endeavors, so it sees a lot of traffic. i love how small it is, and having the lanyard attached to the drive (and not the lid) alleviates any fear of losing the important part of the unit. that said, i've never lost the lid and the drive travels in my bag just about everywhere. i actually leave the lanyard on to prevent losing the drive; otherwise, it's so small it's easily missed. this is the second one i've bought, and i would buy another higher-capacity one if sandisk had kept this style ......more info
  • yes, its a flash drive
Its sturdy, industrial looking and pretty awesomely tiny. I got it for the look, (i took the stupid plastic cover off) and its rather snazzy. I have it on a key chain so it gets some abuse and so far it just keeps working....more info
  • Small but Reliable
I've had one of these for about 2 years. The stats:

    Compatiblity:
Its widely compatible, from experience: Windows 98/XP/Vista, lots of Mac OS's at school and with friends.

    Durability:
So far I've put it through the wash several times without its plastic case and it still works fine. To stop myself from doing that I now carry it on my key chain, which is a very handy feature. Even being banged around with all my keys and other stuff in my pockets, no trouble except the logo has worn off. I now use it as my backup drive.

    Speed:
I tested the speed with 2 175 MB transfers (one multi-file, one single file) the Cruzer took about 3 minutes, 15 seconds to move 314 picture files and about 38 seconds to move 1 video file. This was faster than my Sony MicroVault 4G by about 1 minute for the first trial and 10 seconds for the second trial.

    Cons:
-Only 1 Gig, thus I only use it to back up text/spreadsheet files and move smaller multimedia compilations.
-Just once I had a problem where a computer I plugged it into whipped it totally. Fortunately I had just bought it and was able to return it. Since then I've determined it was the computer's problem (though no one can tell me why) since it works fine with all other XPs and all other computers.
-Don't become attached to the plastic cases, they start to fall of very easily after a while.

In total, a great flash drive if you want something small and reliable (not to mention cheap)....more info
  • 1 GB for under $45.00!
Get the most bang for your buck with his puppy. This is the perfect solution for anyone who requires a (fill in your favorite term here - memory stick, jump drive, removable drive, etc.) combined with document security, but doesn't have administration rights on their computer, (heaven forbid - you might mess something up!! - apologies here to the IT professionals out there)which prevents the use of the new U3 technology showing up on a lot of the newer removable drives. The included CruzerLock software can be used without admin rights to encrypt files to prevent unauthorized use or viewing should the device be lost. It's lilliputian size makes it the perfect choice for situations where multiple sticks are used concurrrently, or where the USB post is in a tight spot on the PC. The included three silicon skins with matching caps (which due to good design features, actually stay on fairly well)provides color customization (for those who find that a bonus feature) but more importantly, gives the user two extra caps for those time when the jump drive fairies pay a visit to take yours away. USB 2.0, incredibly small size, easy to use encryption software, 1 GB, neck lanyard so you don't have to dig deep in your pocket to find it, 3 caps....and it ships free for under $45.00....Stop looking - you've found it! ...more info

  • Washed & Dried
I lost this flash drive shortly after upgrading to an 8GB of the same brand. My wife found it in the dryer. The plastic body cover and cap were in the washer. To my amazement it still works fine. I see that mine was not the first to go through this test though. Anyway, it impressed me enough to write my first review of a product....more info

  • you'll want your money back..
this will work "VERY" well for 1 or 2 weeks...then it will stop working, or sometimes stop your pc.

you will see on this review pages, "Great item" "Great gizmo" "Great buy"...those "Great" series appears massively on 12th or 13th of March. I wouldn't catch it if I didn't get disappointed by this tiny little "now" garbage. ...more info
  • It just keeps going!!!
I'm very pleased with this product and have own one for a few years. Recently I lost it, but luckily after a week and a half it was found by a fellow employee. Wow, I'm so lucky...and after being run over by cars and laying out in rain storms along with a deep freeze or two the flash drive still works! This has helped me to make the decision of sticking with scandisk products!...more info
  • register your s/n with Sandisk before it rubs off the outside
The serial number on this flash drive is printed on the outside of it and rubs off easily, which can be a real problem if you have a warranty issue. Mine fried a year into the two year warranty and if it had not been for a slick USB diagnostics utility from Microsoft (UVCView) I would not have been able to retrieve the serial number to get warranty service. In the end Sandisk was great though and they replaced the dead stick with a new one. Recommended - just remember to write down your s/n!...more info
  • Not a bad drive..Small size is handy for a keychain.
I bought this as a gift for a friend. She keeps it on her keychain and uses it both at work and at home transporting files back and forth. She finds it fast and loves the small size.

I bought myself the newer version, which is larger and does not have a cap, but slides(a nice feature). Mine has more memory, but is loaded up with software. I got rid of most of it. It has a new U3 technology that duplicates your entire hard drive so that you can see it on any other computer. It was great for transfering all of my files from one computer to another in a very fast manner, but it takes up most of the storage space on the flash drive and mine is 1 gig (my friends is 516mg).

I just bought a Lexar Mercury 2 gig, which does not contain U3 software and that will now be my main flash drive. It is roomy, solid and has an external meter which tells you how much memory you have, even when not plugged into a computer. I think Lexar makes a better product than Sandisk. I have 2 older, smaller Lexar drives and have never had a problem. Sandisk is probably okay, but I think I am a Lexar fan. My first Flash drive was a PNY and that was a total piece of junk that broke in no time at all.

Don't get me wrong. Sandisk is a decent Flash Drive, but I think Lexar makes a sturdier product and I don't need anymore U3. Once was enough. The Sandisk in the review does not have U3, but I don't know how much longer that style will be available, so you may have to get a U3 model if you buy a Sandisk.
