Product Description

Update your kitchen with this handsome nine-piece cookware set from Calphalon. The charcoal-gray matte finish of the Commercial Hard-Anodized series not only looks sophisticated but is impressive in performance: it sears meats over medium heat, cooks evenly, and stays stick-resistant without having a nonstick finish that can eventually peel. Moreover, hard-anodized pots and pans are safe to use with metal utensils and under the broiler. Riveted on for strength, the stainless-steel Cool V handles stay cool during stovetop cooking and are oven-safe, as are the lids.

Covering all the basics, this set consists of a 2-1/2-quart covered shallow saucepan; 8-, 10-, and 12-inch open skillets; and 3- and 7-quart covered chef's casseroles. The lid on the larger casserole is domed to send moisture and flavors back into the pot for succulent meat dishes. You'll find low to medium heat is the best temperature range for this fast-heating cookware. After use, wash by hand. Though it's still covered by a lifetime warranty, Calphalon discontinued the Commercial Hard-Anodized line in 2004 and replaced it with Calphalon One Infused Anodized. --Ann Bieri

What's in the Box
9-piece cookware set. The set consists of: 2-1/2-quart covered shallow saucepan; 8-, 10-, and 12-inch open skillets; 3- and 7-quart covered chef's casseroles. 9 pieces total.

Set includes: 8" omelette, 10" omelette, and 12" omelette, 3qt chefs casserole with cover, 7qt chefs casserole with cover, and 2.5qt shallow saucepan with cover. Heavy-gauge aluminum is responsive to temperature changes. These pans feature the original Calphalon hard anodized surface, which is stick resistant, meaning that it sticks when you want it (when your searing, browning) and releases when you need it to(when your food is ready). If you know how cast iron cooks, you know how the hard anodized cooks, but hard anodized has many beneifts that make it better choice- aluminum is a better conductor than iron, you never season your pan(so you dont have flavor transfer from dish to dish), and it doesn't rust! All pans are spun or drawn into shape, which makes the entire pan (sides as well as bottom) the same thickness, which guarantees even heating throughout. If you enjoy cooking and want the best and most versatile surface for performing a variety of techniques- this is the surface for you! Metal utensil and broiler safe. Lifetime Warranty.

  • Set includes 2-1/2-quart covered shallow saucepan; 8-, 10-, and 12-inch open skillets; 3- and 7-quart covered chef's casseroles

  • Riveted stainless-steel handles stay comfortably cool for stovetop cooking

  • Don't Buy These Pans! Buyer Beware
I read many of the product reviews and also own other Calphalon pans, these don't measure up and everything, and I mean everything, sticks to these pans.

I have other Calphalon pans, all with smooth handles, these have cast iron handles and are a cheap knock-off of the originals. Save yourself the frustration and don't buy these pans!

I purchased them for Christmas and I am calling Amazon tomorrow to return....more info
  • everything sticks
I bought these because I thought it was time I invested in some nice pans. For some reason these pans are the worst things I have ever cooked in. Every thing I make sticks to the pans. I can't make eggs without them sticking to the pans. I can't make anything!...more info
  • Heavy Duty And Durable
I read other reviews before purchasing this product I find that it is the best way to see if products are junk. I found this Calphalon 9 set to be extremely well made and durable. I have had this set a few months and they look the same as when it came out of the box. I even use them to bake in the oven. I prefer heavy duty well made and can take a beating and these pots and pans can take it. ...more info
  • OK pans
Thought I was getting these awesome pots and pans, but in actuality, they look nice, but they are a pain to keep clean. And the instructions say not to use PAM, so there's no point in trying to cook low fat in these pans. Even when I use oil, things things still stick. Also, you are not supposed to stack them when you store away, so I have to buy a new pot rack, which there is not really any room in my kitchen for. I'm so disappointed with my purchase. I wish I could return them. If I could do it all over again, I would spend the extra money for the non-stick calphalon....more info
  • Low cost and poor
For $150 its a great price for 5 pots and pans. However, you get what you pay for.

Assuming they are delivered with flat bottoms, they continue to warp very easily and are poor choices for smooth top stoves. For whatever reason, they do not saute well. The balance and handling is poor. Between the riveted handles and the lack of a non-stick coating, keeping them clean is tough.

If you are on a budget, you can probably do just as well at your local supermarket. If you have the cash, start buying good pans one at a time. They will last a lifetime and are a pleasure to cook with. Think Italian or French. There is a correlation with countries that have a history of fine cooking and the cooking products they produce. The Italian ones tend to be very expensive. The French are far more affordable and cook just as well. ...more info

  • Really STICKY cookware
Do not buy! This is the worst cookware I've ever used, especially the saucepans. Should be advertised as STICKY cookware - whatever you cook will stick and will not come out even after overnight soaking and lots of scrubbing.

  • Factory 2nds, or maybe 3rds?
Compared to other pieces from Calphalon hard-anodized line, this set is much lesser quality. The handles are not as smooth as the other pieces I own and purchased separately. I don't claim to be a gourmet cook, but I've been cooking long enough to know the quality of things I paid for. The set quickly became dull and has discoloration on the bottom like I had it for years (it's only been a month). And I did follow care instructions and never put it in dishwasher. Not to mention that I got 8 pc. instead of 9 being advertised. Very disappointed and would not recommend....more info
  • Best Calphalon Deal out there!!!
I stumbled onto this fantastic deal a few weeks ago (supposedly a one day sale, although I see they are still offered for the price I purchased them for today). I've wanted this set of pans for as long as I can remember and this sale was too good to pass up. I replaced my set of Calphalon Everyday pans (little bumps on inside bottom of pans) and could not be happier! I was amazed at the browning quality offered! Can't recommend highly enough. Fantastic deal ($498 set for $149!!!!!). Worth every penny and then some!...more info

  • Bad cookware set
Out of the box this cookware looks cheap and cooking with them was a nightmare. We cooked eggs on the 12" open skillet and after 30 minutes of scrubbing were unable to get it clean. We returned these the next day. Stay away from Calphalon made anywhere but Toledo, OH. We have other skillets from Calphalon that are great. This cookware was terrible....more info
  • MADE IN CHINA!
THREE WORDS.....made in china! Not a bad set for the price but if you're expecting the great quality from Calphalon like we were, spring the extra money and buy the set with the name brand etched in the handles....MADE IN USA...more info

  • Not the American-made Calphalon
This is the Calphalon made in China, so it is much thinner and lighter than the American-made Calphalon option. If you need a sturdy professional quality, this is not it. Having bought this set on sale, I broke up the set and made some presents for some young people just starting out and setting up a beginning kitchen and who were not developed cooks. It would not be worth full-price. I wish Amazon would label country of origin, especially on products made by a manufacturer that produces in more than one country and where the level of quality is dependent upon which country made the product....more info
  • an amazing bargain
This is some of the nicest cookware I've ever used.

The good: Perfect, even heating. You can make even delicate egg-based sauces in this without a double-boiler. Lovely fond too; seared meat releases when it's done and leaves behind exquisite brown bits for deglazing.

The bad: Must be hand-washed; can't go in the dishwasher. Not non-stick; you have to feel the food as you cook it and get it right.

The bottom line: There are two lines of cookware that work this well. Both are beautiful and usable, and it used to be a matter of esthetics to choose between them. Do you want Calphalon black or All-Clad silver? Since the Calphalon Commercial Hard-Anodized went on sale for 80% off, the choice became easy.

  • real Calphalon?
I thought the price for this "Calphalon" set was too good to be true. Now I am questioning if it is the real thing. The pots are labeled with "Calphalon" but it says "Made in China." I have looked at other products and they say Toledo, Ohio. Interesting... Food seems to stick in the frying pans - but otherwise the performance is good. Does anyone know if they are knock-offs or are genuine?...more info
  • Excellent Product
The Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 9-Piece Set is a cooks dream come true. My only regret is that they weren't available 25 yrs ago.

  • Sticking NOT a problem! Handles stay cool, thick gauge metal
Having received these pans and used most of them I am bit perplexed by the negitive reviews which mostly complain about unbelievable sticking problems when cooking with them. Let me first say that I was a professional chef/cook for more than 20 years and worked all around the world. The industry standard in most pro kitchens is generally heavy aluminum with teflon coating only being found in egg pans. Caphalon is generally considered too expensive to be used in restaurants, but at these new prices (I got my set for $153 with FREE S&H) that may change. Folks all I can say about the nay sayers is either they got a bad batch or even more likely they just don't know how too cook! These pots and pans are WONDERFUL! They are of a good thick gauge, their bottoms are finely grooved to retard sticking even more, and the metal saute pan handles do NOT become hot even after cooking with them for an hour! The two dutch ovens are excelent and the first thing I did was make Gumbo, which I browned a roux with rendered bacon fat until it was red, sweated the holy trinity (celery, onions & peppers) and then braised the poultry and shrimp for an hour in the thick creole gravy. I also made dirty basmati rice (which involves well sauting chopped chicken livers and the holy trinity and then adding and boiling REAL rice) in the 3-qt pot and NOTHING stuck! The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that the anodizing on the inside bottom seems to get a bit muddied looking after use, so I'll keep the issue of longevity open to a futher update....more info
  • impossible
I must have gotten a different set than everyone who loved this cookware so much, giving it high scores.

I was hesitant to order it because despite the good overall score, there were a lot of bad reviews. The price was great though, so I went for it.

    Big mistake.

I followed manufacturer's instructions to the T. Still, everything stuck. Eggs were impossible to make. Pancakes - forget it. Cleaning? I let the pan cool, like instructed. Scrubbed it for 20 minutes and still the pan did not look like new (after ONE use!). The pots and pans were also very heavy..

The only good side: they looked nice.

    I returned them....more info
  • High recommendation indeed.
The cookware arrived on time and in excellent condition. It certainly lives up to Calphalon's reputation. I have used it exclusively and am happy with the results. Food doesn't stick and it cleans easily. It was lighter weight than expected, but more than adequate to meet the needs of a busy cook. I recommend this product for it's affordability, style and performance. ...more info
