Customer Reviews:

  • WoW, forget 5 stars, this one's a 6!!!
I have a Pentium 4 3.0GHZ 800FSB cpu, and while encoding video my temps were reaching a CrItIcAl 89 Celcius!!! This was with the boxed heatsink/fan. How Intel provides a heatsink/fan combo that doesn't even meet their own thermal spec is beyond me.

Anyway, how does 50 Celcius sound, under full load? And in silent mode, no less! Forget the CPU fan noise that drowned out everything in the room, now I can actually concentrate.

39 degrees Celcius for $35.99??? I never expected this much of an upgrade from a heatsink/combo swap.

Make sure you check your clearances though, because this guy is a monster.

  • Dropped CPU temp from 46 to 34
The Zalman fan, installed on an AMD socket 939 board, to replace a poorly fitting fan, dropped the routine CPU operating temperature from 46 C. to 34 C. Installation was quick and easy, taking approximately 15 minutes. The fan is fairly quiet, although not silent. I would definitely replace other fans with this fan....more info
  • Quiet Cooling Fan
Very clear installation instructions, took me about 20min to remove the original fan and install this one. (used on Intel socket)....more info
  • easy installation and much cooler CPU
I just installed this CPU cooler this afternoon after going on line and reading a few reviews. I have a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 on a socket 478 motherboard. It had been running hot (80 C and over according to the Everest computer status monitor) now that our weather has gotten warm. I checked that I had enough clearance around the processor socket, then installed the new cooler in about ten minutes. The steps for the socket 478 installation were: remove old fan and heat sink, replace the old thermal grease, slip two clip supports into the socket frame, put the new heat sink and fan in place and tighten two bolts. Then plug the fan controller intro the motherboard and the fan motor. That was all (the other socket types looked a little more complicated). Now under stress, the CPU temperature is running 20 C lower than with the original (budget type) fan and heat sink. I was amazed at how simple the installation was....more info
  • Fantastic
This cooler is exactly what I was looking for. It is truely quiet in Silent mode (1300rpm). My 2400+ Athlon XP hits a high of 55c in silent mode, and 47c in normal mode (2400rpm). It idles in the mid 40s. Normal mode is audible but not deafenly so. It's incredibly heavy but it has a good mounting mechanism and comes with all the parts you need.
Overall I am very happy with the zalman. I wanted a silent cooler than could keep the cpu temperatures down, and it fits the bill....more info
  • great fan, not for amd 940 sockets
great fan, sad to see it will not work for a socket 940, mounting plate and mount have 2 holes on each side, instructions say to pull motherboard and remove stock mount plate, but stock mounting plates have 4 holes on each corner not 2 in the middle, its a bad design for amd 940 boards........more info
  • The Best Heatsink/Fan Combo Bar None!
This was my first time changing out a heatsink/fan combo and WOW what a Difference! The reason why I wanted to swap out the stock Intel heatsink for this Zalman 7000B-Cu was obviously the temperatures I was getting from the CPU. I think someone was playing around with my heatsink/processor because the old thermal paste on it was warped and some was missing. Anyway, checked out the BIOS/PC health settings one day and surprised to find out that Idle CPU temp was 64 Celsius!!! Imagine what the full load temp would have been!

Needless to say, I was troubled and began my research on Heatsink's on the WWW. This Zalman flower kept coming up in good reviews(good cooling AND low noise), but I was hesistant because of the size. I have a Socket 478-Giga-byte SinXP1394 board with the Dual Phase Power board installed next to the processor slot which gets in the way of the huge Zalman. It was either the DPVRM board with the cool blue LED or the Zalman 7000B-Cu Heatsink with great reviews or some other less-than-satisfactory Heatsink.

Well, Zalman won! I installed that puppy in 20 minutes mostly because I got a little messy with thermal goo/cleanup. Very easy to install--just two screws did it!

Booting up gave me the surprise of the day--after reading so many good reviews of this product being low noise and lowering other peoples CPU temperatures by 5-10 degrees, I was shocked. My idle CPU temperature was now down to 35 Celsius--from 64 degrees! A 29 degree difference!! Now that was amazing.

The noise is also minimal, just as advertised. EXCELLENT PRODUCT!

Zalman has sure spoiled me now with the super-easy installation and efficiency of this product. Providing some thermal paste was great and also the ability of this heatsink to work with AMD chips was also a PLUS. The price is excellent as well...Amazon is on par with other specialty stores....more info
  • great fan
Great fan. It is rather large though. Almost didn't fit in my system. I like the speed control. Personally I wouldn't have to use it, but good to know it is there....more info
  • cool and quiet
    This is an outstanding fan/heatsink.

I replaced the stock intel fan with this and also upgraded my powersupply at the same time, the drop in noise has been unbelievable...the pci slot cooler I had is louder than this fan and the new PSU combined. On silent mode this thing is actually silent and yet still keeps the cpu cooler than the stock intel fan did.

The one thing other reviews have noted but you can't fully appreciate 'till you get it in your hand, it's FREAKING HUGE. This is *two pounds* of copper people, you know those big cappucino mugs you see? it's definately larger than that, the pictures are misleading. You think I'm joking? buy it, you'll see! It's a monster but it's a cold *stealthy* monster.

For the record, it's also looks awesome in a windowed case. If you have the room by all means do it --it's two pounds of copper!...more info
