What's in the Box
One motion sensing light socket
- Motion sensing light socket
- Automatically turns light on when you enter a room and off when you leave
- Senses movement in all directions
- Ideal for laundry rooms, basements, walk-in closets, and garages
- For use with 25 to100-watt bulbs
- Just what I was looking for
I put this in a closet with an overhead fluorescent light and it works great. I've had no problem with the fluorescent light that was in there (I'm using a DuraBright).
- Great but not perfect
I bought this for a walk in closet that I have turned into my craft Room. I really like the idea of a light that turns itself off because I can get distracted and walk off and leave the light on. because I have binders and books on a top shelf less that 2 feet from the light socket, I worry about a fire hazard if the light stays on and I accidently leave the house, so this was a great peace of mind saver for me.
1. Turns itself on and off so it is great for closets and small spaces where you will have your hands full.
2. Saves electricity by turning itself off.
3. great safety feature for the elderly and other limited mobility individuals. ( always lights up problem areas, doesn't leave light on)
4. immediate turn on if the motion trigger is a door opening.
1. I noticed that if it goes off while I am in the room I have to stand up to turn it on. My theory is that if you are not tall enough like a child or a pet, it will not turn the light on by your motion alone.
2. It often has a delayed turn on it I walk in and the door was left open. (see #4 above) This may also be a height issue, so if your child opens the door the light will go on, but if he has left the door open, it may be delayed or not work.
All in all, I LOVE this product. I am ordering three more for all of my other closets. It is amazing how much effort it takes turning on and off a light manually. I now know how great it is just to have it turn on and off by itself..it is the best kind of magic.
For 5 stars I would like to see the motion sensor adjustable to area (height), the timer set lower than the 4 minute shut off or adjustable, and the ability to take different kinds of light bulbs.
I moved it into our cloths closet where we keep the dog beds in a corner. (we keep the door open so they can go in by themselves) So far in the new closet the stupid light wont turn on for my husband and I, but the dog turns it on at night. I had thought that they would be too short to trigger the motion, but they aren't.
Why it works so much better in my craft room, I don't know, but back in there it is going!!...more info
- Convenient but did not last
I bought four of these about a year ago. Only two of them are still working. They detect motion well, but don't work with fluorescents....more info
- Works well but not with CFL bulbs
This was the perfect solution for a dark basement. The only light switches were 10 feet into the room, so we always had to fumble around in the dark to find the lights. Now, the lights go on the instant we enter the doorway.
My only complaint is that the light flickers just a little. It's noticeable if this is the only light that's on in the room. I first tried this with the CFL energy efficient bulbs, and they were not happy with the varying power. They buzzed a lot and the flickering was much more noticeable. The instructions for this unit say that it works with incandescent bulbs up to 100 Watts. Stick with your regular light bulbs and you'll be fine....more info
- Expectations met with flying colors!!
This product delivers exactly as stated. I am thrilled to not have to go into a dark closet anymore, paw around blindly and climb up on boxes to reach the bulb pull, just to get a little light. I am very happy with my purchase of two already and would buy more if needed somewhere else in the house. ...more info
- be prepared to return it
Initially, I bought one of these and it seemed to be working ok for 1-2 days, so I bought two more. Surprisingly, after 3-4 days, one of them stopped working -- it stayed permanently on, which pretty much defeats the purpose of having a motion detecting unit. I exchanged it, and a second one has stopped working about 3-4 days -- it also stayed permanently on.
So far, 2/4 have been defective. This is either poor quality control or poor engineering.
- Great Product!
I put this in the garage and it comes on when it "sees" the door opening. I used a 100W light bulb and had no trouble with the light seeming dim. No more fumbling around in the dark. Excellent idea....more info
- 4 minutes, too long.
Excellent product. But, there is a 4 minutes wait until it turn off after you leave the room. That is the only thing that I dislike that the company done. Also, the base is too wide to fit a glass cover on it....more info
- Very handy but watch out!
I have a room in the basement where I keep my computer and when I leave the room at night, the light switch for the main basement is on the opposite wall. With this item, I don't have to feel my way around anymore. But, don't use an energy saving spiral bulb in this unit, it will just flash on and off, then the unit will quit working. ...more info
- First Alert Motion Sensing Light
This motion sensor works great. I put mine in the bacement so by the time I get to the bottem of the stairs (presto) theres light. It is a simple device that will help with the dark places in the home. Just screw it into a light socket and screw your bulb into it then turn the light power on. Turns off automaticly. Thanks......more info
- piece of junk
This piece of junk stopped working after 1 month. Guess you get what you pay for....more info
- Three units failed in thunderstorm
I bought of these and installed them in the basement. The worked great for about a month. When a thunderstorm came through and the power went out all three units were fried. No other electrical devices in the house were damaged by the outage so it leaves me to believe these are very poorly made. Too bad as they were convienent. I also wish they worked compact flourescent lights. I'll send them back to BKK brands as there is a 3 three year warranty. See below for details:

- Ooops, did I forget to turn off that closet light?
Yes... I did forget to shut the closet light off again! But the "Motion Sensing Light Socket" shut it off for me! Thank you! Now Mrs. Real has one less thing to yell at me about! :o)
The directions say you need at least two feet of clearance all the way around, but there are some pipes and one wall that are within a foot, and it still works perfectly....more info
- POOR product
This product didn't work right from the beginning. It flickered, even with the change of watts and then soon after installing and manually turning the lightswitch on and off, it repeatedly burnt out bulbs. NOT at all happy with this product. Yes a great idea and concept if it worked properly....more info
- Super Sensor
This sensor socket works as promised. After replacing a balky pull-chain socket with one that too quickly emulated its predecessor I thought it might be time for some new technology in my workshop. The PIR720RN comes on like it should then goes off automatically. Ceiling height can be an issue with this product it seems from other reviews. My unit's perch is 7 feet high. First Alert says not to mount higher than 10 feet from the floor. The recommended wattage range for an incandescent bulb is 25-100 for proper function. I would have given the unit 5 stars but I've only had it for two months and can't vouch for durability. No reason for suspicion there, just laying out the facts....more info
- Remote Sensor Light
I purchased this item about a month ago. I finally had a chance to replace the existing light bulb in my garage which was operated by a conventional light switch with one now controled by the Motion Sensor Activation. It's fantastic! Now I can take things out to the garage with both hands full, and not have to find the light switch. The light comes on automaticly when I open the garage door from inside the house to the garage. It's been a life saver, as there is a small step from the house to the garage floor. I did not even have to adjust the sensor, it worked from the get go....more info
- works perfectly
I was concerned it might take a lot of motion to turn this light on, but I put it in my garage and just opening the door turns it on. Works perfectly....more info
- WORKS GREAT!!!!
I own a small bar in a very old building. The bathrooms had old pull chains on them that don't work more often than they do, so the lights were on 24/7. This was the PERFECT solution!! They have been in place for about three months now and are working GREAT! Customers love them!
I HIGHLY recommend!!...more info
- First Alert Motion Sensing Light
I have been using these devices for more than 10 years. They do what I need for them to do and last a long time. They do seem to be hard to find and of course a lower cost would be appreciated. However, I shall never be without them....more info
- 1 broke after a few days
Bought 2 of these and 1 broke after a few days. Seems ok when working. I just wish it had a selectable switch for the timer and also a light sensing meter so it doesn't turn on during the day.
Good thing Amazon cust. support is very good. Shipped me a new one right away....more info
- Stopped working
This was a great purchase... for 6 months. Then it just stopped working. I may be silly to do this, but I'm going to buy a replacement unit, and hope that the first one was just a fluke. Other reviews seem to be good, so for $25, I'll take a chance.
Other than the fact that it stopped working... it was great. I put it in my basement where I have a pull-chain light in the middle of the room. It was a pain to stumble around in the dark searching for the chain, or grab a flashlight every time I went down. With the motion sensor, as soon as I opened the door to go in, the light came on right away. Perfect solution! I'm hoping the second unit lasts....more info
- Fabulous Light Technician
"Aziz, light! ... Thank You Aziz." is the line from The Fifth Element I'm reminded of when I open my basement door after parking in my garage, and the lights automatically go on. Now I just head upstairs without having to switch anything on or off! I had thought of wiring a 2 way switch, but would have had to run extra wiring etc.. This is so much easier.
The big plus is that now I don't even have to flip a switch, which is SO CONVENIENT if you have things in both hands and are already struggling with the door. Yes it does stay on for 4 minutes before turning itself off; surely we have, at times, unintentionally left lights on for much longer, so it's still a plus. Excellent product!!!
- So far, So good
After reading the reviews on this product I purchased 3 units. I placed them in 2 closets and a laundry room that previously had lights with pull strings. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. They have never failed to function properly. The only negatives that I can see are; you cannot adjust the time the lights stay on, and you cannot use CFL's with these units. Both of these issues were accurately described in the documentation, so they are only my comments, not problems with the units....more info
- Stopped working after two months
It is a nice design but with terrible quality control in their manufacturing. They probably used the cheapest circuit parts they could find. It also quit working for me after a couple months. It just stays on and it never turns off. Where else can I find a motion sensing light socket that does not use a battery? It is unfortunate that no one can make a reliable version of this concept....more info
- Excellent product
We love these motion light sensors. We are using them in our storage facility, so when you open the door the light automatically goes on and off when you close the door. No more lights being left on by accident. I think they would also be good around the house, but we haven't gone there yet. ...more info
- Good product; easy to use
We recently installed a pair of these lights in our garage and they work like a charm. Simply screwed them into the existing sockets, screwed the light bulb into the unit, turned on the light switch and now whenever we enter the garage, the lights go on immediately. ...more info
- Not worth the money
I put one of these in the garage- doesn't work at all! The light stays on tall the time, regardless of bulb wattage. This hangs in the middle of the garage, so no impediments to operation. ...more info
