Product Description

J.A.HENCKELS Stylus 8-Piece Knife Block Set

Henckels's International line offers affordable cutlery from one of the world's most renowned knife manufacturers. The Fine Edge Stylus collection stands out for its ergonomically-contoured stainless-steel handles, giving a kitchen a decidedly modern elegance. This eight-piece set contains the following basics: 3-inch paring knife, 5-inch serrated utility knife, 6-inch utility knife, 8-inch chef's knife, 8-inch bread knife, 8-inch carving knife, 9-inch sharpening steel, and a graphite-painted storage block.

Constructed of stamped, high-quality 18/10 stainless steel, the knives feature precision-ground, hand-honed blades that slice meat and chop vegetables with aplomb. While not at the same height of excellence as other Henckels cutlery, the Fine Edge Stylus knives feel well-balanced with a noteworthy heft. All pieces store in the included graphite-painted wood block. Made in China, the cutlery is dishwasher-safe yet best washed and dried by hand immediately after use. A lifetime warranty applies. --Ann Bieri

Customer Reviews:

  • A bargain from J.A. Henckels, but read the specs!
This J.A. Henckels 8 Piece Stylus Block Set is a decent set at an excellent price, but do read the specs carefully before you order so that you're not surprised. This set has a modern appearance due to the stainless steel handles, and those have a nice ergonomic feel. But these are not the "Made in Solingen, Germany" like the Four Star, Five Star, Pro "S" (and others), which are forged from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel. These knives are made in China from stamped stainless steel, as indicated in the specs.

An explanation: J.A. Henckels has two distinct brands. The "Zwilling J.A. Henckels" brand is known as "The Premium Brand," with products that are mainly made in Germany (mostly forged blades) or Spain (for mid-range knives, forged or stamped). The "J.A. Henckels International" brand is "The Value Brand" division that produces less costly, mostly stamped blade knives, often made in China or Taiwan.

If you're looking for some top-of-the line German-made knives from J.A. Henckels, check out the J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star Cutlery, or perhaps the J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 7-Piece Knife Block Set.

Please understand that this is not a put down on this J.A. Henckels 8 Piece Stylus Block Set, which in some ways is better than some other knives crafted in Germany, for the Henckels quality is still there. Just don't be surprised to see the blades marked "Made in China."...more info
  • Best knives!
Very sharp practical knives. They look and feel like that, each knief was cut from a single piece of steel. Very stylish, comfortable, and functional knives at an amazing price!!...more info
  • Great looking and great performance!
The knives look good and I get lots of compliments on them. They do a good job, especially for the price. To complete the set, be sure to get some kitchen shears....more info
  • Excellent
We looked at several brands of cutlery and found Henkels to be among the best. When we saw it on deal of the day at such an amazing price, we snatch the set up and added two sets of steak knives. Our expectations have been exceeded....more info
  • What a difference an edge makes...
I purchased the JA Henckels International Stylus cutlery set with the graphite painted block in December 2007, and I have had no regrets whatsoever for not purchasing a higher end, more expensive one.I did manage to obtain it at about $30 less than what is offered on Amazon from another supplier, but I still feel the current Amazon price is an excellent value for these knives. The one piece ice forged blade and handle feature is what initially attracted me to this set. If you've ever lost a handle from a knife, you'll understand what I'm talking about.A passionate yet fledgling cook who enjoys teaching my children the finer points of good food preparation, I really appreciate knowing these knives will not fall apart during an important cutting job. The included honing steel quickly restores a straight edge, and I've only needed to sharpen my chef's knife (the workhorse in my kitchen) using the Accusharp Knife sharpener one time.It restored it to its razor sharp edge immediately. With proper cleaning and care, I predict these knives will continue to take the daily heavy use I subject them to for many years to come.AccuSharp Knife Sharpener With Replacement Blades...more info
  • Pretty nice knives
These are great knives (especially for the $50 I paid for them). My wife is a wonderful cook and we needed a nice sharp set, so I pulled the trigger on these when I saw 'em at that price. The only downside for me is that I'm not that crazy about the way they look, wooden handles and a wood Block would have been a little classier. Oh well, you don't buy a knife to look at it and we're perfectly happy with these....more info
  • German Quality - Not!
I almost purchased this set. I was impressed by the "German Stainless" references. Then I read deeper into the specification. "Made in China" was all I needed to see. It's a shame that companies are willing to deminish their brand name and reputation in the quest for low cost labor. If I want to buy knives made in China, I'll go to Walmart....more info
  • German Knives made in China?
I was completely surprised to find that the German knives I purchased were actually made in China. I think it is an important piece of information that was missing from the Amazon description....more info
  • Great deal for the price.
I paid $69.95 for this set on another web site, but for the price it is a very good set. I would rate this set in the middle of various J.A. Henckels knife sets.

They have stamped blades, not forged, but do the job, as long as you keep them sharpened. The set also looks good on our black granite kitchen counter top. I recommend hand washing after each use.

This set was made in China, not Germany, but the quality, for the price, is there. If you have the chance to buy this set for $70.00, or less, you will get your monies worth. I would also advise buying a good knife sharpener, because these knives do get dull after a few weeks of use. ...more info
  • Mediocre
These knives are OK. For their price, they're actually decent. But these are, after all cheap, stamped knives. Expect to toss them after a year, and expect to sharpen them often, but not in a sharpener for nice knives.

The block is surprisingly good-looking. The set as a whole goes very well in my super modern kitchen. I plan to keep using the block with nicer knives....more info
  • enjoying the knives
I gave these knives 4 stars instead of 5 because I know they are not top of the line. But for a very inexpensive price, I find them to be high in quality, very sharp and they look good and feel good in my hand. I have only had them for a month so I don't know how sharpening them will go when they get dull but I am very pleased with them thus far. ...more info
  • Great Knife Set
I've only had the knife set for a month but so far it works great. Very sharp. It comes with directions on how to keep your knives sharp and in good condition. I think that if you follow these suggestions then the knives should be fine....more info
