  • Okay for the price and a few let downs as well.
Product was easy to install but has a few draw backs.

I am not quite sure of the 900' advertised range unless it is directly line of sight with no obstructions.

Both the transmitter and the receiver are very cheaply built. I am concerned about how long the transmitter will survive Indiana outside as their is no weather seal or protection inside the cheap plastic housing.

The receiver has a generic sounding buzzer and the volume is non-adjustable.

Overall it will get the job done but it feel's like something I would expect to get from Billy Mays @ $19.99 with a free tube of mighty putty!

  • Worked great...for about 3 months..doesn't like rain
It worked great for about 3 months, then I noticed every time it rained it would stop working for a couple of days, which turned into longer periods, and now it is practically totally random and useless. I bought mine in early 2008 and we've used it at about 400' range just fine (while it worked). Seems to need a better seal to keep out moisture, probably an O-ring. Too bad, because it was great while it lasted......more info
  • wireless alarm
The product works well for me. I have a very long driveway and use the alarm to let me know when someone has arrived. Problem 1 birds and dogs set it off often. Problem 2 it has to be replace about every 2 years. I am on my second. If not for those problems I would give it a 5....more info
  • Not as rated
I bought two of these alert systems. (I wanted a extra receiver for the other end of my house.) I tried the sensors out of both kits and neither will transmit further than 180 feet from the receiver. This is no where near the 1200 feet listed in the instructions. This distance is drastically cut down if I do not have the receiver in a window with direct line of sight. It defeats the whole purpose that I purchased this unit....more info
  • Piece of junk
This is a poorly designed product. I was trying to save money when I bought it. You get what you pay for. I returned it the next day.

  • A Waste of money and time, POS.
If you can see it and no more than 21 feet it will work. Will not work inside home to alert that someone enter driveway, @ 15feet !!! TOTAL A WASTE of time and money for me !!! ps I had to give it one star to rate it, would like to take that one star back. ...more info
  • Buy a door bell !
You're better off trusting a thief to ring your door bell than to waste time & money on this low quality product. Tree leaves or pollen in the air will block its transmission making it useless! Do not buy this product! ...more info
  • Don't waste your time with this.
Claims of 900 feet are completely and utterly overblown for real world applications. I couldn't get 40 feet of reception with the receiver inside the house. Perhaps if I put the receiver in direct line of sight outdoors I could have gotten better reception, but gee, then I wouldn't be able to hear the buzzer! Very cheap construction, no seal on the outdoor sending unit, etcetera etcetera. I wasted about 2 hours today trying to get it to work and then giving up and trying to stuff it back in the box. Grrrrr! I'm going to try the Dakota at twice the price......more info
  • Does what it is supposed to do!!
I've tried a couple different driveway alarms - this one works great and you can't beat the price. I needed two base stations from one sensor - so I purchased two units - you can program the base stations to work with the same sensor unit. Programming is quick and easy and battery life on the sensor has been good - about 6 months now....more info
  • Very Happy
I have this system on my driveway and have been very happy with it. I give it about a 97-98% effective rate. Every now and then a car will either come in without triggerring the alert, but this is probably due to either the angle I have it posited at, the window location on the car, or a combination of both. Again, this does not happen often, but every now and then. The only modification I made to it was to add a small powered siren to it so it could be heard better when we are downstairs. The alert tone is not strong enough to be heard very far away in our unit. Everything else has worked just as promised. ...more info
  • Chamberlain Wireless Alert System
We are having some troubles with the consistancy of this item. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. There is no rhyme or reason to this. The only thing we can think of is if the antenna are not exactly facing each other the alarm will not sound. That can be a tricky thing since one of the pieces is OUTSIDE and there are the elements to contend with and animals running up and down the trees. So it seems like we are outside trying to adjust it every day. I won't recommend this item or purchase one like this again, that's for sure.

  • Does not have stated range.
I got one of these units to install on my front gate 300 feet from my house. On the box it states that the system has a range of up to 900 feet. That is just not so. I installed the sensor on the gate and took the base unit into the house. I watched as my wife pulled into the driveway and heard no alarm. I took the receiver out on the front porch in line of site to the motion sensor and had her drive out. Still nothing.
I then moved the base station out in the driveway to within 250 feet of the sensor and it worked if in line of site. It will not of there is anything between the units. To say the least I am disappointed. The only way it will work for me is to mount the motion sensor 50 feet up my driveway and the base station in an open window. With in 200 feet it works fine.

  • Get this product!!!
I bought this after our car was stolen out of our carport. Now I will know if someone is prowling around our property. I ordered one extra motion sensor to go with it. I like the fact that I can have up to four sensors with the one base. I have a cat that lives in our carport and he doesn't set off the alarm. It was very easy to hook up. I used heavy duty double stick tape to put the sensors up on our siding. I didn't want to put holes in my siding. It has worked great!...more info
  • Nice Product but range is limited to around 250 feet.
We have a 300 foot driveway and the product description stated it works
up to 900 feet between the transmitter and receiver. We thought this
would be perfect. With the receiver inside on the main floor we were only getting about a 100' range in direct sight range through a window. With the receiver sitting on the window sil upstairs we managed to get about 250' of direct sight range. Not quite what we were hoping for but it works, we just have less warning that we hoped for....more info
  • don't buy it!!
I bought one of these systems several years ago and it worked great up to at least 250 feet away from the base. I have now received 2 different additional sensors (to replace my old one) and they only work to 110 feet away from the base. This might work for some driveways but not on our farm!...more info
  • Works good depending on location
This product works well depending on the location. We put the sensor & reciever well within the limits. It says it has a 1000 foot limit, but we had it less than 200 feet away and it would only register occasionally. We had to move it to 100 feet for it to work. It works great at 100 feet....more info
  • Great low cost notification.
I bought one of these systems with extra transmitters. Its been bullet proof so far. Lets you know when someone is on your property close to the house. Simple and easy to use....more info
  • No More Surprises
This acquisition is without a doubt the one thing that has changed the way we live. Our home sets off the beaten path, our driveway is about 600ft off the main road. We now know when visitors are arriving both day and night. It has brought peace of mind without having to depend on barking dogs. Thank You!...more info
  • Mike
Purchased this product as a replacement for the REPORTER driveway alarm. The batteries leaked and distroyed the insides. This alarm appeared to be the same other than the name. Looks the same and everything. I got the alarm and installed it in the same place as the other one but I couldn't get it to work. The sensor is about 400 feet from the base. I could only get the alarm to sound when I moved it to closer then 200 feet. Returned it the next day. Going back the the REPORTER brand....more info
  • REPORTER INFRARED MOTION SENSOR
I BOUGHT TWO TRANSMITTERS AND TWO RECEIVERS TWO YEARS AGO. THE TRICK TO GETTING THIS TO WORK PROPERLY IS ALKALINE BATTERIES, KEEP BOTH ANTENNAS EXACTLY VERTICAL AND KEEP THE TRANSMITTER DRY.

TO DO THIS I PAINTED THE TRANSMITTER SEAL ALL AROUND, AND THE SCREWS WITH LATEX PAINT WITH A Q-TIP, BEFORE CLOSING THE CASE, AND MOUNTED IT IN A INDEX CARD FILE BOX WITH A HOLE CUT IN THE FRONT FOR THE SENSOR, AND ANGLED IT DOWN ABOUT 12 DEGREES TO LET RAIN WATER DRAIN AWAY FROM THE TRANSLUCENT LENS.

PAINT THE SCREWS HEADS TO KEEP THEM FROM RUSTING. LATEX PAINT ON METAL WILL FRACTURE WHEN YOU NEED TO OPEN THE CASE.

I AM GOING TO BUY TWO MORE FROM AMAZON, AS I UNDERSTAND THE LIMITATIONS.

WHAT MAKES THIS UNIT "THE" UNIT IS THE RELAY, WHICH HAS TWO "FLAG" CONNECTORS ON THE BACK. NORMALLY OPEN ... MOMENTARY CLOSE ON ALARM

IF YOU WANT TO YOU CAN CONNECT A FIREHOUSE ALARM BELL TO IT. WITH A SWITCH, I CAN HEAR IT WHEN I AM WORKING IN THE BACK YARD.

WITH A LATCHING RELAY YOU COULD START A CAMERA ETC.

  • Mine was not as sensitive as others say
I was trying to protect a townhouse parking space against vandals and thieves. After testing at a variety of heights and angles, it seemed that people on foot would be detected reliably only to about 10' away. Occasionally it would hit at 20', but I need close to 100% reliability, not "occasional" hits! Build quality seems OK and radio range seems OK, but the detection range was too short for me. I'm sending it back....more info
  • great
This combo has worked flawlessly for a year and a half. I moved the sensor a few times - the farthest range was 600 feet. But then I ordered three more 'Chamberlain' brand sensors. Those only worked to less than 200 feet and not reliably, so I am returning those sensors. ...more info
  • read before you buy!
I had tried 2 other cheaper sensors before buying this one. Here are a few things I wish I had known before buying it:

    1. The sound to alert you when the sensor is tripped is very quiet, you would be lucky to hear it with the TV on. It does have a place for you to hook in another devise such as a door bell to make a louder sound. I hooked up the door bell just fine but of course this meant spending the money for a bell and wiring it myself.

    2. The 900' range on this must have been tested on the beach. The item struggled to be successful at a little over 100' with no obstacles between the sensor and the base unit except for the wall of my house.

    3. The customer service that Chamberlain provided over the phone was excellent. The did help me to get the sensor to work for my purposes but as far as it working to the advertised specifications even they would admit that 900' was a stretch.

Thus far it has produced no false alarms like cheaper ones and after finally adjusting the sensor it has tripped for every vehicle and even for some stray dogs that were trying to dig under the gate! It takes some time to get it right but for me it was worth it to have a reliable driveway sensor....more info
  • Works pretty well for the money
I installed the sensor at the end of my driveway, approx 150' from the base and the unit works great. I have had two false alarms in one day (possibly sunlight) but the unit does what it says and was easy to install. The beep alarm inside the house is loud enough to hear if the kids aren't jamming the t.v.

Overall, I would buy it again. It does what I need it to do....more info
  • Very Disappointed
Should be a simple concept...when a car drives by, the buzzer sounds. Not the case here! After meticulously following the directions, calling customer support and waiting 18 minutes (I was determined) to speak to the tech for advice, I'm boxing it up and sending it back. I have a driveway in a wide open field, less than 500' from the base. Never could get it to work. It would buzz at nothing, and NEVER buzz when a vehicle passed. Don't buy it!!!...more info
  • Cheap and doesn't work
If the sensor was within 27' of the base unit it worked great. No where near the 1200' they claim. And don't expect it to pick up cars...only slow moving people....more info

  • Has worked great for me.
Based on some of the negative reviews I guess I've been very lucky...the unit has worked fine for me. I have 3 of the sensors working with one base station (3 is the max for one station BTW)...... and they don't go off when they shouldn't and do when they should. I've been very pleased. ...more info
  • Poor performance
This unit works intermittently although it's only about 75ft from the base unit. I installed a secondary transmitter at a different location in the yard about 200ft from the receiver, and it never has worked. -Disappointed
