Beautiful Design and Easy Setup
The WGR614 is a very attractive unit about the size of a small paperback with a silver exterior and rounded edges. An included plastic stand lets you stand the router on its edge to take up less space.

The WGR614 makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your internet connection into the router and insert the included CD into any computer on the network, which will provide step-by-step instructions. The WGR614 employs a web-based interface for configuration, and the router will automatically do the initial setup by getting your DNS settings and determining your IP address. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your router will always be up-to-date.

Fast and Secure
Supporting the 802.11g standard, the NETGEAR WGR614 offers wireless data speeds of up to 54 Mbps, making it possible to share a broadband internet connection, stream music without hiccups, watch videos with less load time, and videoconference without problems. Downloading files is up to five times faster than it was with 802.11b. If you still have computers that use 802.11b, don't fret as the router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standard and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network and the WGR614 will automatically figure out the connection type and work accordingly.

In addition to wireless access, there are four 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a faster, wired connection.

The WGR614 offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks. To ensure the security of your wireless data, both 40/64-bit, 128-bit, and 152-bit (802.11g only) WEP encryption is available, as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network.

Keep Tabs on Kids
This router is an especially good choice for parents as it allows settings to log all sites that are visited, lets you block specific sites based on whether it contains specific keywords, and lets you set time schedules for certain computers to work.

The NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Router is backed by a 1-year warranty.

  • Awkward & undependable
After a convoluted set-up, this unit continued to be hassle with constantly dropped signals. Eventually the WGR614 became a waypoint between the modem and my laptop which was connected with a 20' cable back to the router. Lucky I had the cable or else I would have continued to lose work! For multiple laptops and a powerful signal spend $20 more and buy a Linksys. Sorry Netgear. ...more info
  • Randomly Stops Working
I would say this is probably the worst router I have ever owned. When I left college and moved to a new apartment I picked this up for my new home wireless network. To follow with most of the other 1 star reviews, it consistently just stops broadcasting. The lights stay on and blink and show as if it is working, but the only way to get it going again is to just reset the thing by pulling the power out and plugging it back in.

On another token, I have DSL as cable is not available in my area. It took me HOURS to get this router to work properly in conjunction with my DSL modem. The directions included with the router did not end up working easily, so I had to take several additional steps which I managed to find online using my Mobile Broadband Card as secondary internet connection.

All in all I would say this is an awful investment. Get another router at any cost.

  • Drops Connections
This router had been working for me for 6 months with no problems, but now the router will crash and require me to pull the power and plug it back in to reset. This happens at least 5 times a day. As you can see my experience is not unique. There are major flaws with this product and contrary to the advice of Netgear a firmware upgrade will not help....more info
  • Very happy with my purchase!
My husband and I bought a Wii and wanted to be able to play online. I looked online and found this one on Amazon for a reasonable price. We have had it for a few weeks now and are very happy. No problems, glitches or issues getting the Wii online. We also started up with Vonage and there have been no issues with this router and Vonage. We are very happy with our purchase! ...more info

  • The best Router
The best team I have been using wireless, can hide the network to prevent the PC around it detects, besides having an excellent MAC filtering for security, I would recommend a place to remove Linux firmware with all the benefits of the product with security which is present in free software....more info
  • This Router Has Been a Life-Saver
I have had no luck with routers over the past couple of years. But this Netgear WGR614, version 7, has worked like a charm so far. Initially, I had problems setting up this router. But when I used the CD that Netgear included in the router package, it took only 15 minutes to configure everything properly. I am using Vista Ultimate on my Dell 1705 and 1520 laptops. One of my laptops is connected via ethernet and the other laptop and my printer (HP 6980) are connected wirelessly. The speed and range of this router are excellent. Moreover, when I stream video wirelessly, the router does not reset itself. This was a problem I had with other wireless g routers. I put in a 26 bit encrypted wep key and disabled SSID broadcasting. All of this is very easy to do as long as the set up and all changes are done on the computer connected via the ethernet. Netgear even places a wireless router icon on the desktop.

I recommend this router highly and only hope it continues to perform the way it has over the past 2 weeks. ...more info
  • I'd give it 1/2 a star..
I'd give it 1/2 a star if I could. Actually purchased this at wallyworld because my 10yo one crapped out. The intermittent "lock-up" problem is still in existence. It's not really a lockup more like pauses but still a royal pain if you're gaming and get kicked. NOT recommended....more info
  • Easy Mac Set-up
Forget the manual or CD; go right to the Netgear set-up online, and it's step-by-step quick and easy. ...more info

  • easy and cheap, great combination
All I wanted was a basic wireless router that would allow me to keep my hard line connection with my desktop and offer a wireless connection for my laptop. This product offered both at a very cheap price. There aren't many frills but I didn't need any.

I have Comcast High Speed Internet and they basically contend that they should be called for any installation. I decided to give it a try myself and it took me a total of 10 minutes to set up this device (twenty if you include moving junk around on my desk and moving plugs in my surge protector to make room :-) ). The installation CD walked me right through the set up process and it worked beautifully. My desktop is still connected via Ethernet and my laptop connected immediately. Security set up was a breeze as well.

I am well satisfied with this product. It works beautifully with Vista (my desktop is 32 bit Vista, my laptop is 64 bit). I definitely recommend this wireless router to anyone looking for a basic device with a quick set up....more info
  • Rip Off Artists
So everyone knows that gadgets usually last about 4-5 years until they really start to "act up" and basically fail. Fun fact: Netgear charges you $35 to call them for help after their bogus 90 day warranty. I've never heard of anyone having problems besides hook up with the netgear products until they are a few years old. So basically: NETGEAR DOESN'T STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS AND THEY WANT TO RIP YOU OFF SO DON'T BUY IT UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO FIX THESE THINGS AFTER YOUR 90 "WARRANTY" HAS EXPIRED!!!!!...more info
  • Product works fine
I purchased this product because we are in transition from desk tops to laptops and I wanted the get rid of the ethernet cable running through my home. I received the product quickly and set up went smoothly. Very pleased....more info

Arrived quickly and worked just like it is supposed to with easy instructions on a CD. I had to call Comcast to come out and connect it to their service because that was too complicated for a non teckie like me....more info
