Want to take great Polk Audio speaker sound outdoors? Check out the indoor/outdoor 80-watt Atrium 45s. The stainless steel and brass hardware is completely rustproof, as are the aluminum brackets that allow multiple mounting options and full 90-degree rotation: aim them to deliver the best possible sound in a variety of locations. The rustproof aluminum grilles have 55 percent open area for superior sound quality. Most importantly, the Atrium 45s rugged, weatherproof, design meets or exceeds several military specifications for water, wind, salt, and corrosion.

Inside the completely sealed enclosure is a 4.5-inch Dynamic Balance mineral-filled polymer driver with butyl rubber suspension for pumping out amazing bass, while its .75-inch soft dome tweeter with neodymium magnet broadly distributes high frequencies to cover a large area with high fidelity sound. Polk's Dynamic Balance technology produces flat frequency response, sharp detail, transparency and an ability to play program material with wide dynamic range at life-like volume levels without a hint of strain. The sound is always clean, clear, and effortless. The sculpted front baffle and rounded enclosure minimizes diffraction (sound reflecting off of hard edges) for more open and lifelike imaging.

Connect them to an amplifier or receiver using the set's gold-plated five-way speaker-level binding posts. The Atrium 45s are also voice-matched to Polk's RTi speakers, and therefore make great surrounds in a complete Polk home theater system with the ability to handle up to 80 watts per channel.

Customer Reviews:

  • Polk Audio Atrium 45 Speaker: well constructed ... Muddy Sound
The Polk Audio Atrium 45 Speakers are pretty well made with gold plated terminals. They do NOT look cheap.

I intended to use the speakers as back-surround in a 7.1 setup, based on the raving reviews here.

I found that the Polk speaker sounds VERY MUDDY compared to my inexpensive Axiom M2i bookshelf speakers that I use for my front and surround channels.

I then compared the Polk with the cheap and tiny MA Audio speakers (at a quarter of the Polk's price) in my sun room. Again, the MA Audio speakers sounded crystal clear, but lacking in bass, understandably, COMPARED to the Polk.

I have no idea why the Polk Atrium 45 speakers received such favorable reviews. May be the reviewers listened to the Polks without comparing them to others ?

  • Great hot tub speakers
We use these on our outside hot tub and they sound awesome. A lot of water and snow has fallen on them and they still sound great. We're going to buy another pair....more info
  • Great Clarity but no Boom
I've had them now for over 3 weeks and I must say they sound great. The clarity of the highs and mids is impressive if kept at a reasonable volume. They are however lacking in bass and start to sound distorted at higher volumes. They were mounted in the corners of my deck which is 9 feet above ground. A second set may be needed for the ground level when I have a party or cookout....more info
  • Totally Impressed - sound, installation, & quality
I will have to admit, I am really impressed with these speakers...they sound great, even outdoors. I put them under my overhang and the bracket allowed a super easy installation...(less pulling the wires that is). I also purchased some bose151 speakers and the bracket didnt allow me to install them where I wanted them...but comparing the sound quality to the bose and the polk, hands down, the polk wins. These are really nice outdoor speakers...excellent design, excellent mounting. I soldered the wires for the connection points and time will tell. But for the $100.00 or so bucks, I rate these as worth it. ...more info
  • Best speakers for the buck
All-weather is a plus, but the Atrium 45s are also all-purpose. They simply sound better than most small speakers and work with practically any wattage you throw at them. The lows are good but the mids and highs are uncanny. The mounting brackets make them great for multi-speaker applications (there are 24 at my church) and perfect for surround sound. Why do they miss that fifth star? The lowest lows need a sub-woofer. Polk makes a great one; Sony makes a superb one. I miss the built in super-los of the Polk RTA-12, but the Atrium 45s are amazing: Well worth their list price and astounding for the price of $100 for the pair that I got through Amazon. Don't buy another small speaker without hearing these!...more info
  • Great Speakers

  • Polk rocks!
Have Polk audio speakers for home theater, and purchased a pair of these for the courtyard previously. Liked them so much, I bought a secong pair! Bass response is unbelievable for a speaker of this size. ...more info

These are great speakers for the price. Not the best speakers but for what you are paying they are well worth the money....more info
  • Great Outdoor Speaker
I bought these after listening to a neighbors pair that he had out around his unenclosed pool deck. They had been there for a year and looked brand new. He had another pair on his porch that were three years old and looked almost as good.
The bass response on these babies, despite their size, has to be heard to be believed. The outside enviroment is murder on bass, but these speakers sound great! For the price and size, you can't beat them. ...more info
  • Polk Audio 45
Great sound - hooked up to 30w Denon. Easy mounting, poolside at the beach in Florida. Harsh salt air environment, unprotected wet area, sealed speakers and mil spec important for salt/corrosion resistance. Sound great, other neighbors purchasing same after seeing and hearing these....more info
  • Polk Atrium 45
I have heard nothing but good things about polk speakers. I have had these for a couple of weeks and they live up to their reputation. They sound good and were a breeze to install. ...more info
  • Good deal, good price, great sound
Not my first set of outdoor speakers, but much better than the BOSE outdoors I had previously. Price was almost half of retail, and sound is great. My friends, the birds, the bears and the other animal in the neighborhood all seem to enjoy my smooth jazz CD's on the outdoor speakers....more info
  • These Little speakers ROCK !
I was hesitant to purchase but these Rock. They sound the best when listening to classical. Nice crisp sound. The bracket is somewhat integrated into the speaker which hides it alittle to make a nice install.
You should never have to remove the grills but you will need a screwdriver or something 'cause the grills are on tight. That's not big enough for a negative. Just mount and wire & so sweet sounding....more info
  • Simply Outstanding
These are replacements for a year old pair of KLH's. I couldn't believe my ears the Polks sounded so much better. I would buy again without a doubt....more info

  • Great speakers, terrible customer service
Speakers sound great, look great. But be aware if you have to send in one of the speakers in for repair it's a terrible process. One of the mid-range drivers broke in one of the speakers. I called, packaged up the speaker and sent it in to the Polk Audio service center. I called 2 weeks later and asked the status, the guy said he has no idea where the speaker is. Then told me there are two palates of speakers that have to be worked on still. Apparently they have one guy that fixes all of their speakers. It's now been 3 weeks and I still don't have my broken speaker back.

But the speakers do sound terrific when they work, hence the 4 stars. ...more info
  • Atrium 60 is all you need.
I had pair of Atrium 60 as a replacement for my front surround inside for 2 months to break-in. It was too cold to istall them outside anyway. So now they are installed, under roof overhang, out of direct sun or rain. The sound is as good, as I hoped for. Can't say superb, since I never had 1000 bucks Klipsh or similar non sense installed outside. They run thru transformer volume control and at -10dB they fill my 35x15 patio nicely. My backyard is only like 60 x 50 and if I would put in +5dB the local cops will shoow up for sure. It is not all just about clean volume. It is about nice, rich base, undiscovered instruments in midrange and yes the jazz trumpets piercing clarity. Acker Bilk, Boots Randolph, Al Hirt and even Gene Krupa all shine in the open space. For those newbies: Music is not just a bunch of noise and yelling. Just like a Nike really does not make real shoes..........more info
  • Perfect Outdoor speaker
I live in south florida and have found these speakers to not only sound great but they can handle any weather thrown at them. I have two sets of these speakers around our pool attached to palm trees. They have been exposed to direct sun, 10" rain storms and 40 mile per hour winds during tropical storms and they look and sound like new.

I would highly recommend these for anyone looking for a worry free speaker to put in an outdoor location either covered or not you can't go wrong. ...more info

  • Well built and easy to install
I bought these Polks to extend my audio outside while entertaining. They supplement 3 pairs of RC60is that I have in my kitchen/bar/dining room. I'm using a Monster ss-4 speaker selector to connect all four pairs. The Atriums were easy to install with solid mounts, although I would have liked the mounts to rotate on more than one axis so I could "toe-in" the speakers and angle them down. If mounted vertically you can toe-in, if mounted horizontally you can angle down, but you can't do both. My main gripe is they don't seem as loud as the indoor speakers so I can't just set a comfortable volume for all four pair simultaneously. To be fair my outdoor space is noisy so I might be cranking them up to compensate. I plan to add a volume control to attenuate the indoor speakers to solve that problem....more info
  • not impressed
i guess you get what u paid for. may be a little less.
no real bass at all. sound is kinda flat. hope it will at least weather....more info
  • Great price for good speakers
These speakers are solid and hefty, sound is crisp and my music sounds like it should, especially in the vocal range. They are a bit on the large size for mounting out of sight, but their look is clean and attractive.
Only flaw I've noticed is when the bass is emphasized they get boomy pretty quick. As long as you keep the bass tone flat, you can crank them up and they show little distortion. They are a bargain for casual listening on your porch or patio. ...more info
  • Speaker Review
Nice little speakers with wonderful sound. Installation is easy, mounting brackets very functional can be mounted vertically or horiziontally. Would of given them 5 stars except you are required to paint them. However after taking my time and getting paint to match my deck they look great and blend in nicely. Just installed them so can't comment on the all weather feature. I live in the rain forest of Hawaii so it will be a test. ...more info
  • better than expected
We recieved these and got right to work installing them in our backyard. My husband and I both agreed that they were easy to install and sound better than we thought....more info
  • Great sound, irritating grills
Beautiful sound throughout the range. Awesome power. But those grills keep falling off; hyper-irritating. Had to affix them with duct tape. Would have been a 5-star without this issue....more info
