The design features smooth, rounded surfaces that easily wipe clean. The K45SSWH has a strong, durable, all-metal construction and gives years of trouble-free, dependable use. Includes Coated Flat Beater, Coated Dough Hook and Wire Whip. 4.5 Qt. Stainless Steal Bowl Coated Flat Beater, Coated Dough Hook and Wire Whip Standard 115 Volts AC, 60 Hetz, 3-Wire Cord, 3-Prong Plug White with Silver Trim The design features smooth, rounded surfaces that easily wipe clean

KitchenAid's stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 250 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough; the 4-1/2-quart bowl can hold up to 8 cups of flour, which translates into as many as 192 sweet treats.

This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solid in construction and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist; untwisting them is a bit trickier because the attachment stems are short and can be hard to grasp, especially if they get the least bit greasy. The bowl itself locks tight to the base.

Standing 14 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off.

To complete the package, KitchenAid includes a spiral-bound guide with instructions, mixing tips, and 67 recipes, from crispy waffles to a caramel walnut banana torte. --Betsy Danheim

My wife is very pleased with the mixer. She had never owned a stand mixer before, and has found many reasons to make use of it....more info
  • I love this Mixer SO much!!
I love this Mixer so much, that after my first one broke ( which I had for 10 years), I went out and bought a new one. It didn't even break really, just a couple of speeds stopped working. Nevertheless, it's a hearty, strong, durable piece of kitchen ware that my kitchen gets lonely without! It cleans easily, it mixes great, it's great for all your baking and/or applicable cooking needs! love it love it love it!!!!...more info
  • OK until it dies
Worked fine under very light use for four years. Kept extremely clean and maintained. And then it just died. Not built for longevity. The repair shop said it's not worth fixing because Kitchenaid prices its parts very high. RIP....more info
  • great product
Ordered as a Christmas gift for a chef. It's the gift that keeps on giving..... He loves it and I love the food he makes for me with it!! ...more info
  • Buy at own risk!
I received this mixer for a wedding gift almost 8 years ago. I used it very little in the first years, just cookies maybe once a month. From the day I opened it, it made a "weird" noise when in use but because it was so infrequent I often forgot about it until I used it again, finally realizing my warranty (VERY short at only a year!) was up. I decided to just use it until it died. It is still going but has been leaking oil/grease for sometime, today deciding to spew grease in my cheesecake. :( I went online to see why it was doing this only to find TONS of horrible reviews of similar situations and breaking mixers and horrible customer service. If it's after a year it isn't their problem it seems. I think when you pay hundreds of dollars for a product it should come with some sort of care. Unfortunately KA has fallen in the last few years, no longer is it the product we will pass on to our children and grandchildren. So sad. I won't be buying another one when this one dies for good. I will go with Cuisinart or Viking. ...more info
  • Great Product
Every aspect of the transaction was first class. The mixer was delivered very quickly and is a great product....more info
  • I LOVE my mixer!!!
This mixer is the most wonderful product I've purchased in the past 10 years! I love how easy it is to use, it does a wonderful job and makes baking much faster. It's easy to clean and is heavy-duty so I won't worry about it breaking anytime soon. The bowl is quite adequate for any size recipe unless you're doing catering from your home, then your recipes will feed 100 or more, so you'd probably want the larger Artisan model. This one was more than $100 less that the Artisan model and was exactly what I wanted! Love, love, love it!...more info
  • solid warranty experience
Contrary to mbaker's review about a poor experience with the warranty, mine was superb. My classic stopped working for speeds below 7, which was disappointing, especially because I bought Kitchenaid for its reputation of quality. I knew I was hovering around my 1-year warranty and so called customer service to see what I could do. I was just over warranty and they knew it, but they replaced it with an artisan anyway! It might just have been lucky for me, but on that experience alone I'll keep going back to Kitchenaid....more info
  • Kitchen Aid Classic Mixer
Unfortunately my review is not going to be one of the best. I purchased the mixer and was pleased with its rapid arrival. However, upon using it three times, the motor failed, and now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to return it. I'm disappointed with the product, not your service. Will order something from Amazon.com after I get a working mixer....more info
  • piece of junk!!!
I bought a kitchenAid stand mixer for light use at home to make cookies and now the machine is leaking oil. Apparently this is a common problem because if you search the internet about this machine leaking oil you will find several blogs where hundreds of people complain about it. Please do research about this machine before you buy it. By the way, my daughter just got one for xmast and hers is also leaking oil. Check out this site and you'll see how common this problem is and how the Kitchenaid company refuses to fix this problem. [..]...more info
  • Works Great For Special Brownies!
I'm not much of a cook or baker, but every two months or two I'm compelled to make a bunch of heavenly brownies. This has been going on for ten years now and I've had this mixer for all ten years. Its just a simple and elegant machine that does what you tell it to do. Seems like a no brainer, but so many products come short on just doing what they were made to do.

So if you're in the market for making special brownies or even regular brownies (if you must), then I highly recommend this mixer. Throw the ingredients in the bowl (don't forget the secret oil) flip it on and walk away. It will do its job and be ready for pouring in minutes. 20 minutes of baking, 5 minutes of eating, wait an hour and you got yourself a yummy brownie tummy. Next, Wii bowling and a lot of laughing....more info
  • I own this one, I also bought one as a gift
I actually bought this same "bottom of the line" KA 4.5 quart white Stand Mixer about 6 or 7 years ago from a local store during the January clearance sales so I talked my husband into buying it since my birthday was coming up. He was just learning to cook and we really didn't have a good mixer - just a double beater hand mixer that was old and the "cheapest model" back then (probably 25 years old back when we bought our KA). He couldn't imagine using a stand mixer but after using it a few times for various pancake batters, omelets, and other "light" cooking projects, he really liked it and has never regretted the price.

I already owned a breadmaker so I hadn't even tried to use mine with the bread hook or to make bread with it. I'm happy to read the other people's experiences because I will watch out for that and see if we have a similar issue. Will doubtless continue to use my breadmaker though...

I grew up using my mom's old Sunbeam stand mixer so that's one of the reasons I wanted one, but I didn't like the two beater version and had enjoyed the Kitchen Aid when I tried out the one that a friend had. Her mixer eventually died and so when this went on sale this past November or December, us kids went in on one and delivered it to her. She loves it for the cookies and cakes that she frequently makes (she's always preferred to make her bread by hand, kneading it herself!!).

So for most things that a smaller family might need, this is probably more than adequate. But if you are into the "Artesian Breads" (think King Arthur Flour and their bread recipes!!) or other projects, you'll likely want to invest in the professional models like you see on TV.

I've also seen elsewhere on Amazon some cool graphics you can stick onto the mixer head and stand (like "flame" styles you'd see on a car or a cycle) so if this one is too boring a color, you might consider some decal enhancements! ;-)...more info
  • A workhorse, but...
I inherited a Kitchenaid stand mixer that was already about four or five years old at the time, and have enjoyed using it these past seven and a half years. It has performed very well. Along with the mixer that came to me was a box of slicing and grating attachments that I never used until a few weeks ago when I finally gave up in frustration on trying to make my food processor work in spite of a faulty bowl and bowl cover. As a last resort I turned to those attachments as a substitute for the food processor.

Sure enough, the attachments did the jobs I needed them for, but grating carrots, for example, required a lot of elbow grease, since I had to apply a considerable pressure to the pushers to get the carrots to go through. In addition to that, I found that when the grating/slicing attachments were added to the front of the mixer the entire assembly became unstable and with each press of the pusher the entire mixer would try to topple over on me. I found myself having to rest one forearm on the motor housing to keep it upright while I exerted pressure on the two halves of the pusher with both hands to force the carrots through to the shredding device.

Grinding meat with the meat grinding attachment was a better experience, since the meat entered the grinder from a different angle leaving the machine more stable during that process. I notice when I'm in the stores that today's Kitchenaid mixers are configured just as my older one is, so I can't picture how they might have corrected the problems I have described above.

If you are looking for a powerful, effective stand mixer to use for bread dough or cake mixes, you will be pleased with the Kitchenaid, but if you have limited counter space and are considering buying the attachments hoping to get double duty out of your mixer instead of cluttering up your counter with a food processor, too, then you would do well to look for something with a better, more stable design.

  • Best gift I ever received!
I received this as a wedding gift recently (I'd been wanting one for years). This is a marvelous mixer...better than other brands that I had used in the past. I would not only recommend this mixer (quality, ease of use, not to mention that it's just soooo cool) but I know what I'll be getting others for wedding gifts from now on. I swear I don't know how I lived without my mixer. I was always afraid to make bread...not now. With my KitchenAid....all things are possible....more info
  • Do you like Motor Oil in your food? Then this is for you!
I own a KitchenAid mixer - which I loved until Motor Oil started leaking into my food. Just do a quick internet search on Kitchen Aid leaking oil and you'll get plenty of information - in particular that the company won't do anything about it, other than tell you to use your mixer more often. Give me a break!! Everytime I use it, I sit with paper toweling to catch the oil before it gets into the food. No more Kitchen Aid or Whirlpool products in my house....more info
  • My favorite kitchen tool!
I've had a Kitchenaid for a couple of years now and recently purchased this model as a gift for a friend. She had threatened to take mine home with her after housesitting for me a few months back so I figured it was a perfect surprise for Christmas. I was right - she loved it!

I selected this model because she has limited counter space and it's a little smaller and lighter than the other models I had looked at. My aunt has had the same model for a number of years and uses it almost daily so I know it's durable. The only shortcoming it has is something I had not noticed before - the bowl does not have a handle and that makes it somewhat more difficult to remove and hold when pouring. I think that you can purchase a handled bowl seperately but that's going to add to your bottom line so you'll want to keep that in mind when comparing models.

Kitchenaids are HEAVY! The metal construction can make them hard to lift for people with limited strength and the flip-up head requires a good amount of space when open. It probably won't clear your upper cabinets so it's going to have to out in the open for use. Fortunately it is easy to push/pull once you have it located on the counter so you can pull it out for use and push it back when your done. There are heavy rubber feet to protect your surfaces.

Overall I think this is a good choice for even an advanced cook. The mixing action is superior to the brands I had owned before and it's "Made in America"! That point alone would get me to purchase another Kitchenaid! If you're looking for something more than basic white you'll have to fork over a few more bucks for the Artisen but that model has a handled bowl with a splash guard so the costs may about even out.

Having said that I'd buy this mixer again in a heartbeat! ...more info

  • MADE IN USA
Before you give up on the American standard give this a second look. This model is just right for a small kitchen. Believe me I know, back in the day when I was a young child Julia Child cooked in our family ranch commercial kitchen and I had the privilege of being spoon fed her Calzone and Cannelloni. One thing that always impressed me was how efficiently she used this model of the mixer. In those days, the late 70's, it was either that small model or the huge ones that used god knows how many watts. But in addition to being the most economical this model has some advantages that a great chef learns to take advantage of. For instance just recently I made bread and wanted to use a larger bowl- a stoneware pitcher just a bit wider than the stainless provided. That's where the smaller, tighter radius with this machine comes in. You can place a slightly wider base over the outside of the machine base and do no harm to a stoneware dish. By just holding onto the dish I was able to mix the bread dough just fine. Point being you can often fit the paddles on this machine into just about any bowl you mix with and when you're really cooking it can be so handy; all you have to do is reach over and hold your dish under the mixer and turn it on. So all in all if Julia Child could multi-task her kitchen this way then it's definitely no sacrifice for a quart less. A fantastic mixer!

Also watch for a sale I got this one for 50% off new from Amazon! ...more info
  • KITCHEN AID MIXER
I ordered this thru Amazon. This is my first KitchenAid mixer. Due to the popularity of the Brand name I thought I would like it better than my other mixers, the last being a Kenmore that you can't get replacement parts for. The mixer does the job, I haven't had the time to use the dough hook or whip. It is easy to use and clean and the price was right. As usual, I am very glad I used Amazon to make my purchase. It is the best web site to use, very quick and efficent....more info
  • know what your getting
Myself and two friends all purchased these mixers around the same time two years ago. I use mine about once a week for either pancake batter, bread, or brownies and my friends did similar things. All three of our mixers have died with burned out motors. Mine died while mixing eggs.

Some people who have written seem to have good luck with these mixers, but I do not know anyone....more info

  • DIssapointed
It is too heavy and bulky to return but so expensive; I am sad I am stuck with it. For starters the accessories are a few milimeters short and if you dont have a lot to mix you should use a hand mixer because you may not reach the batter, but far worse than that is that it is and has been since I purchased it, temperamental. I have to bang and smack it to start it up. I wonder how long until it doesnt work at all. Comedic but inneficient....more info

Never buy a KitchenAid mixer...ours was a wedding gift (of course)and after 3 years of moderate use, the expensive piece of junk leaks oil into our food and all over the counter top. I'm just glad we didn't pay for it. But our next mixer will definitely not be from KitchenAid!...more info
  • Best Cookie Maker
Bought this mixer in November 2005. Still making the best cakes and cookies ever. No problems. Buy the product to match the usage. This is an entry level stand mixer. Probably not made for the real heavy duty stuff. But for making batches of cookies or cakes, this works perfect for me. The chocolate chip recipe has made me a legend. I've modified it. The precise times in the recipe book are a big help. When this wears out, I won't hesitate to buy another Kitchenaid....more info
  • Hard to rate
I received this machine as a gift 5 years ago and was very impressed. I love the convenience of not having to mix things by hand and it works wonders on almost eveything. It gets a great deal of use from someone who cooks and bakes quite frequently. My only concern is that not too long after I received it, it started leaking some type of oil from the rotating gears above the attachment. I would wipe it away thinking nothing about it until I would find some in the bowl after not using it for awhile. I still use it very cautiously, wiping away every drop I see so as not to let it get into the food. I've heard that this is a common complaint and wonder if the newer models have done anything to prevent this. ...more info

  • Why do people love this mixer?
I'm a SAHM who cooks almost all our meals and love to bake so I'm wiling to pay money for a quality machine that will make my life easier. This mixer isn't it! The design is horrible--unless you buy the extra pouring shield, it is nigh impossible to neatly add ingredients without turning off the mixer and removing the bowl. The beater-junk! The plastic chips off almost immediately, and heaven forbid you drop it. The bowl design is also terrible--there's a big hump at the bottom, which creates a well that causes dry ingredients to stay dry. This occurs even when I use just the bowl and a spoon to mix. Terrible!

And why do they only include one bowl? Every mixer I've ever bought came with two--a small and a large, which is very handy when mixing dry and wet ingredients separately. For the price they couldn't include one more steel bowl? Because of the one size and design of the beater movement, forget scraping the sides with a spatula. You'll have to remove either the beater or the bowl to do it with this design.

I have, however, had ok luck with the dough hook and making bread dough. Except that the dough hook's plastic is chipped along the seam, which is odd since I've used it maybe a dozen times. So while my motor hasn't burned out as others have complained, my bread has contained little flecks of white plastic coating.

I don't understand why people rave about KitchenAid mixers. I have a Cuisenart food processor--that's worth the money. It's clearly better than any other processor I've owned, I use it almost daily and it's still in perfect shape. But my KitchenAid mixer is a heavy hunk of junk that I can't even Craigslist because it's missing plastic on the attachments. I should have gotten a Sunbeam....more info

  • Strong mixer
I think this is the starting (cheapest) model of KitchenAid mixers, but it's definitely good enough for me. I mostly use it for cookies & cakes, though I've made pizza dough in it a couple of times. It's definitely strong enough for any task I might need it for. BUT, and here is the BUT, it doesn't do a good job of reaching the bottom of the mixing bowl. For example, if I need it to beat a couple of eggs, it really can't (I use a whisk instead). You also need to keep pushing down the dough that accumulates on the side of the bowl if you want an even mix. But this is my first standing mixer, and for all I know, that's a problem with all of them. In all, I really like it and would buy it again....more info
  • The best mixer available!
I can't say enough about how much I love my KitchenAid mixer. After purchasing several of the other brands of stand mixers thinking I could save money and have the same thing..........I finally opened my eyes to realize that they were JUNK!

The best mixer on the market is KitchenAid! What more can I say. I used if for everything from the best mashed potatoes in town to the thickest recipes immaginable. I use mine for grinding nuts to grinding venison.

I love my KitchenAid mixer so much that I bought this exact mixer for my daughter for a gift! No kitchen is complete without a KitchenAid mixer. Don't throw all of your money away with the immitation mixers to turn around and buy the real deal. You won't be sorry to buy the best mixer first.

I love this mixer. I had an old hand-me-down mixer I never used for anything because it was cumbersome, didn't mix well and was a pain to put together and take down. This mixer was on sale around the holidays and I splurged on myself. I love it. I have used it 20 times in 3 months, which is about 10 times more than I ever used my old mixer. This goes on my list of things that are totally worth the high price. Sometimes you do get what you pay for and this is a quality mixer. ...more info
