Product Description

Even as Disney has reveled in the success of its high-end animated features, it occasionally sneaks a lesser effort into theaters, based on one of the many TV shows with which it dominates daytime TV. This one is based on perennial Disney favorite Goofy's adventures in domesticated bliss. Goofy is now a single dad; when son Max gets blamed for a prank gone wrong at school, Goofy blames himself and decides that, for his vacation, he's going to get away with Max alone. Of course, this is no treat for Max, who has just met the girl of his dreams and harbors no wish to spend the summer touring America with his square dad. The vacation is one disaster after another, though they aren't particularly funny disasters; the culmination involves Goofy's efforts to get Max backstage at a big rock concert. Strictly for young fans of the TV show. --Marshall Fine

One of the most popular disney characters of all time stars in his first full-length motion picture. Goofy stars as a hip modern dad trying to bond with his teenage son as only he can up to his floppy ears in outrageous misadventures and narrow escapes. Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 06/03/2003 Run time: 77 minutes Rating: G

A great movie but one serious flaw: It is not available in the original wide-screen format....more info

  • Great for teens as well as younger viewers
The editorial review says that the movie is strictly for young kids-- don't believe it. I'm 14 years old and A Goofy Movie is still one of my favorite movies. I truly think this is the best Disney movie that has ever been made. The songs are catchy, the storyline is something most teens can identify with, and the level of animation is excellent, as is the voice acting. Why this movie wasn't a bigger hit than it was is beyond me....more info
  • Good Honest Storytelling.
Well this movie came to a big suprise. I'll admit it, I'm 20 years old, and I LOVE this movie. Most family films tend to have shallow scripts, and mindless slapstick that are just meant to entertain insted of entrall, this movie is so much better than that. This movie illustrates best how unconfortable it can sometimes be to grow up when you're a teenager. And, most importantly, this movie shows us a honest story about the relationship between a father and a teenage son. Like in all good stories, the characters in this movie go on a physical and mental journey. Honest situations and true-to-life characters (other than the fact that they are talking dogs) make this very enjoyable.

Unfortunately the DVD is almost featureless, and doesn't even have widescreen.

It claimes to reccomended for all ages, and it's right. This is truely something everyone can enjoy. Most Highly Reccomended....more info

  • Surprisingly Great Movie
Amazon's in house reviewer above said "strictly for young fans." No, this is also for any adult who loves animation. I didn't like Goofy until i saw this movie. But I loved the way they wrapped a clever-thoughtful guy inside the awkward exterior. It gave me a new perspective.

I'll admit a couple of the songs were a bit painful, but there are so many great gags and great sequences in this story I couldn't help but be impressed. This is way better than some of the high-budget princess movies Disney was grinding out at the same time. And this was done by Disney's second string animators... wow!

    It's a road movie, it's a buddy movie, it's a teen romance movie, it's a father-son movie, it's a whacky neighbor movie, it's a satire movie, it's a musical movie... all rolled into one....more info
  • Goofy Movie Fun For All ages
The Goofy Movie is a great addition to any home collection. Goofy and his son Max go on a trip full of fun, music and laughs. On the way to some of Goofy's favorite places they run into some very humorous adventures that bring them closer as father and son. It is a great movie with excellent music that keeps you humming even after it is over. My daughter and I have watched this movie numerous times and we still love it. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good laugh and great songs....more info
  • My Favorite Animated Disney Movie
I used to watch this on VHS with my sisters when we were younger. We watched it in the theaters and then forced our parents to buy us our own copy, which we watched all the time. I purchased this DVD last year and I STILL love it 12 years after its initial release.

I definitely thought this movie was funnier when I was a kid, but even now I think it's just as enjoyable as it was then. I love the songs-- we used to sing along when we were younger. I even bought the soundtrack!

And I have to admit, I think that this is one of Disney's best animated features. Better than The Emperor's New Groove (which I also loved), and even any of their computer animated offerings, including The Incredibles and definitely better than the awful Cars. ...more info
  • "MAX-I-MUM ~ It's The Goof Boy!"
The wonderfully hilarious animated film `A Goofy Movie' was released in '95 minus all the fanfare that generally accompanies a Walt Disney Production. It is definitely one of the lesser known amongst all the great Disney features, but it happens to be one of my personal favorites. Join Goofy (a.k.a.: Mr. Goof) and his son Max on their madcap vacation trip as they drive across the country on a father/son bonding venture.

Who could ever forget Max's Powerline imitation, Bobby's "Tower of Chessa", Lester's Possum Park, Bigfoot dancing to "Staying Alive" or the lovely and demure Roxanne. This little gem of a film is an unforgettable adventure that will be enjoyed by the inner Goofy in all of us.

Well constructed storyline, infectious music, lots of funny sequences and quotable lines of dialogue. Buy this one, multiple viewings recommended....more info
  • The best Disney movie ever!
I have seen almost every Disney movie, but this is one of the best movies ever!(The sequal I didn't like, it had nothing to do with this one.) I can't beleive this isn't a Disney classic! Anyway, the songs are catchy, and some scenes still make me laugh so hard! A very good movie for young kids, teenagers as well as adults....more info
  • One of My all time faves!
The story is about Goofy`s son Max who despreatley wants to impress a girl (Roxanne). On the last day of school he puts on this elaborate number done by a famous rock star (Powerline)! When Goofy finds out he decides Max is a gang member (based on the princiables desription of what happened)(Pete had tried to cinvince him of this earlier) To try to "help" he decides to take Max fishing in Iadaho(just like his dad did with him) At the same time Roxanne has accepeted an invitaion to watch Powerline on cable at a party with Max! When Max tells her she says she can find somebody else (not meanly more upset). Max upset tells her he is going to the concert in L.A because his dad used to play in a band with Powerline and he was hoping to wave to her onstage when he joins Powerline for the final number. I don`t want to give away any more. I Highly Suggest You Buy This Movie...more info
  • A good Disney movie
My 3 year old son loves this movie. He first saw it at his daycare, so I had to get it for him. There's music, singing and "goofy" things going on amidst a good father/son story. The only thing I found a little off-putting is the reference to the "electric chair" . Try explaining that to your kids. So far, my son hasn't asked......more info
  • First cartoon movie that I can remember that appealed to adults.
I remember seeing this movie in the theater when I was a little girl. This movie was GREAT! Before this, Disney movie were generally for little kids and that was it. This was the first that appealed to adults. This was almost like a Jr/high school cartoon. There were a lot of sterotype high school kids in the movie. The soundtract was also great. I had a lot of catchy tunes....more info

  • A definite classic
I used to watch the VHS copy of this with my son when he was very little. Now that he is 13 we still enjoy watching this movie. It has a great story and is very funny. A lot of parents could learn how to be a better parent by watching this movie....more info
  • Strong story ends with a weak ending
A Goofy Movie started out with a huge comical bang and strong storyline concerning father and son. The entire cast of toons and the music made it great fun. But just as Goofy snaps at his son on the edge of a road the writers feel the need to let Goofy's car roll off into the river. Thus killing the emotional compact that could have built up here. A Goofy movie fares as an average film due to this. And did we need to see Goofy and Max singing on top of a car floating in the river? This was the only lame musical number in the movie. A Goofy Movie had the potential to be a great film but sadly they tripped at the finish line....more info

  • Great for the Whole family!
The very first time I saw this movie was while I was on a baby sitting job. The kids kept insisting we watch "goofy movie! goofy movie!" at first I was like "Oh great, another little kids movie..." but from the very beginning of the movie I was laughing. This is a great movie!

Six years had past since then and I hadn't seen it in a while until it came on the Disney Channel. Upon seeing it again I knew I had to own the movie.

The plot is sweet, and though Max shows obvious resentment towards his fathers "goofy-ness" and the obvious effect it has on him too, you get the sense that he really does love his father, he just forgot how to show it.

I give the movie a 5, because I value family relationships over and above ANYthing else in a movie. Sure it was funny, but the family qualities in this movie are great.

  • Not one of my favorites, but still nice for younger children
After first sitting through this movie with my elder sister, I wondered how she managed to rope me into it. I was tired, groaning inwardly, and vowing to avoid this movie at all costs. Why three stars then, if it was such a brain killer? Because, for children around 8-13, and the occasional person such as my dear sister, it was a smash hit that would be remembered for years, or at least for a week. The Goofy antics, and a star cameo by none other than Bigfoot, had her rolling in stiches of laughter even while I was just rolling my eyes. Goofy stays in clutzy form with the extra trouble of single dadhood, while Max is the stereotypical "selfish only child" for a good part of the movie. However, there are a few characters I have to sheepishly admit liking, no matter how... colorful they where. As a Father-Son bonding movie, with memorable characters, and crazy antics it's so-so for adults but great for children....more info

  • Who's your favorite possum?
The title of my review is one of the most memorable quotes (to me, at least) in this movie. Maybe I won't remember the plot 20 years later, but I'll be able to shout "Who's your favorite possum?!" at my sister and she can respond, "Lester!" It was an amusment park (looked kinda like a tavern) that Goofy and Max went to on their 'trip'. I like the song they sing in the beginning when they are in a car.

  • It's the leaning tower of cheesa~~~
OH god this movie is great. I saw it for the first time when I was probably 8 or 9 and I used to hate Goofy. I saw the movie and I absolutely fell in love with it. I just bought the DVD a couple of days ago and still love it. It is definatly one of my favorite Disney movies--I can't go throught watching it once without cracking up hysterically every time. It's the movie I remember making me remember who Pauley Shore was and the first time I'd ever seen Bigfoot disco to the Bee Gees. It's definatly a classic....more info
  • Why no widescreen?
I won't give a summary of the movie (many reviews have already done that) but I will say this. Why no widescreen? I believe the Region 2 version of this DVD got a widescreen presentation (though I'm not sure if it was enhanced for 16X9 televisions...), but why do the people stuck with Region 1 DVD players get stuck with the full screen version? I've seen the widescreen edition and it looks much better! The full screen version just looks like the sides got chopped off... the scenes feel a bit cramped. Aside from that flaw, this is a great DVD and worth buying, or at least renting. It also has an episode of Goof Troop as a bonus feature and a few other bonus features too. 4 stars only because of the absent widescreen version. Otherwise the movie is worth 5 stars, I just wish to see it in its original aspect ratio. :(...more info

  • second greatest movie ever!
I first decided to watch this movie because I heard that Jason Marsden (who is the cutest and most talented actor ever!) did the voice of Goofy's teenage son Max. But my best friend and I soon found ourselves watching it twice in a row and singing along with all of the catchy tunes (yes, I'm aware that sounds stupid) and reciting our favorite lines. I also saw the sequel (X-tremely Goofy Movie) and loved it as well. This movie was hilarious and is Disney's greatest accomplishment because it's a movie that both kids and parents can relate to. Next to one of Jason's other movies, "White Squall" (1996) this is the greatest movie I've ever seen. I'm going to buy the soundtrack and a copy of the movie itself. The cast did a brilliant job, the writers should be seriously congratulated, and the songs were terrific. This movie is outstanding and definitely deserves more than 5 stars....more info
  • This is a good movie for all ages!!!
I've seen this movie so many times I lost count.! Its one of the best Disney movies ever made, yes its still pretty sappy yet it shows the struggles between a teen son and his father very well.! Max is in his last day of school for the summer and is looking to impress Roxanne his crush. He get's his friend PJ to lone him his dad's camcorder and the audio video cheeze whiz obsessed freak to help him out with equipment to do his thang on during the school assembly. He struts his stuff on the stage, but get's caught by principle mazer, but later finds out he still managed to impress Roxanne! They end up asking eachother out to Stacies starting of summer party for the powerline concert on pay per view.!The principle calls Max's dad and dramaticlly overeacts and tells him that if he doesn't straighten up Max soon he'll end up in the electric chair...Desperate to save Max from prison Goofy(his father)decides its time to take Max on a fishing drip to Lake Destiny,Idaho like him and his father used to do,but Max doesn't want to and then he has to tell Roxanne that he can't go to the party with her,she decides she should find someone else to go with so Max desperate to keep her he tells her he's going to the Powerline concert and that his dad knows Powerline and that he'll wave to her in the final number...Then they're he's to lake destiny with his dad and is totally grumpy...And well to find out the rest go rent or buy this movie "A Goofy Movie" will NOT let you down!!!Suitable for the whole family to watch!!!...more info
  • Another Childhood Favorite!!!
Ever since I was 5, I've loved this movie! I haven't watched it in years, and I saw it on tv yesterday and was a good way to refresh my memory. On the last day of school, Max Goof tries to impress Roxanne, a girl he likes. When he makes a fool of himself dressed as Powerline, a famous rock star, his dad takes him on a vacation. Goofy takes Max to weird places, but Max needs to get to the Powerline concert in L.A. to impress Roxanne again. Throughout the film, Max and Goofy get into fights because Max wants to live his own life. I love the part where Bigfoot dances to the Stayin' Alive song! I highly recommend A GOOFY MOVIE!!!...more info
  • Great movie, but not-so-great DVD
Since this is one of my favorite Disney movies, I decided to get the DVD and see if it was worth the money, but unfortunatley it wasn't. One of the biggest problems with the DVD is that the film is not presented in its original aspect ratio. Another problem is the special features included. Out of all the stuff included, I was expecting a "making of" featurette, but Disney was too lazy to include it, not to mention one was already made back during the film's release and aired on the Disney Channel. Everything else seems ok, the VHS version of this movie is probably two times better. In other words, this is a great film, but the DVD is simlpy stupid....more info
  • Surprizingly awesome
I had forgotten how awesome this movie is- even for a grown-up, like me. It could do without all the songs (it was made before Disney wisely decided to ditch all the cheesy singing,) but it's brisk, double-layered humor more than makes up for it. Kids will think the gags are sufficiently silly. Adults will pick up on the nearly-sarcastic, nearly risque dialog, so rare in Disney animated movies. Plus, Big Foot dancing to 'Stayin' Alive' is just freaking hilarious.

Basically, it's just a Disney movie. But it's a *great (and severely under appreciated) Disney movie....more info
  • A Great Disney Movie!!!
"A Goofy Movie" is one of my very favorite Disney movies, if not my very favorite. I watched it for the first time on video when I was a 4th grader, and loved it. Then I forgot about it for awhile, until I found it on the shelf at the Library last year (I'm now 15) and loved it just as much (or more!) as the first time I viewed it!! I can not get enough of it! My older brother, who will be going to a prestegious University in the Fall also loves it as well. Do not listen to the so-called "professionals" when they say it is a "lesser disney movie" and only for the young - because my older brother, my mom and I like it more than even my 6 year old brother!!

Max (voiced by Jason Marsden) is an uncool teenager who despertly wants the attention of his crush, Roxanne, but seems to mess us when he tries to talk to her. So, on the last day of school with the help of his 2 buddies, he pulls a ABSOLUTLY hillarious and awesome stunt to impress her in front of the whole school -(this is one of my favorite scenes!!)-, but he gets caught by the Principle who exagerates what Max did to Max's dad. Even though he thinks he messed it up by getting caught, he goes from a nobody, to popular because he made the last day of school assembly awesome. Roxanne comes up to him, and they make plans for a upcoming party. He feels ontop of the world but comes home to devasting news - his dad (Goofy voiced by Bill Farmer) who is well-meaning but very goofy feels that taking Max on a LONG road trip to a lake with him will shape him up by having them bond more.

Max, extremely upset, has to change his plans with Roxanne. But he lies to her telling her he will appear at the Powerline Concert dancing on stage and will wave to her while she watches it at the party. (Powerline is like what Justin Timberlake is today) Max and Goofy set off on the trip with hillarious adventours and mishaps along the way. The end is spitacluar, (something any teen would want to do) hillarious, absoutly GREAT! (I consider the ending scene also one of the best parts!!)

Everything in the movie fits very well together, guarenteed to make you laugh ATLEAST once ~ many more for me that is for sure! The songs are very catchy and one of the best assests to the movie! I tried to get the orginial soundtrack but I can't find it anywhere. The sequel is funny, but is NOTHING compared to the first. I rank "A Goofy Movie" right up there with Disney's Robin Hood and all the other classics! A must see for EVERYONE kids, teens and adults!!...more info

  • iiiiiiiiiit's BIIIIIIIIG FOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!
I first saw this when I was in 5th grade(around the time that this came out), and must have watched it about 3 million times during that year... and guuuueeees whaaaaat? 10 years later, at age 20,, I STILL LOVE IT! It has a good story that I bet everyone once related too sometime in high school... plus the songs, while corny, are very catchy(i love the "Open Road" song), and the "Big Foot" scene is hillarious :)

This is a great 90s classic, and a true memory of back when Disney actually made GOOD stuff [...]...more info

  • One of My Favorites
I first saw this movie in theaters when I was about 10, but now, 5 years later, I still love it! This story is about Max, a teenage boy who doesn't really fit in, and Goofy, his dad. When Max pulls an outragous stunt to get a girl he has a crush on to notice him, it works! Max gets invited to watch the Powerline (a rock star) concert on tv with her. But when he gets home, Goofy surprises him with a father-son fishing trip across the country. The story tells about Max, his relationship with his father, and his desprate struggle to impress Roxanne. The original music is amazing and the stroyline is interesting and well done. It makes a great gift for any child or anyone who is a child-at-heart....more info
