  • What happened
This is one of the worst videos I've ever bought. A few matches are good like the first few, with kidman wrestling twice but the rest of the matches are pretty weak, all I have to say is Fit Finely, who's booking this, oh thats right it was Kevin Nash back then, which brings us to the main event. What a suprise Nash takes the belt from Goldberg, officially starting the downward spiral in Goldberg's career. Worse yet is Nash's effort "his" big match, its like he's on no-dose. Common Nash show some pride in your work. What a lousy video, if you want WCW in its prime form, get the 98 Halloween Havoc, at least DDP has testicular fortitude even if he's 46....more info
  • Starcade 98
While I was never a fan of WCW, I bought some old VHS tapes because I was so sick of watching the some old crap in WWE. Here is my thoughts on Starcade 98

Rey Misterio Jr. VS Juventud Guerrera VS Kidman: Match of the night; These three wrestlers gelled well togehter. I cant believe this match was left off Misterio's dvd set. WWE is releasing The Best of Starcade on dvd soon (I hope) and this match better be included.

Note: Alot of matches in WCW at this time had outside interference. Some matches it hurts but some it doesnt.

Eddie Guerrero VS Billy Kidman: Kidman wanted this match, so he got it. Kidman was getting a huge push at the time. A good match with lots of outside interference.

Konnan VS Jericho: Never liked Konnan. This match was alright but nothing to speical.

Brian Adams and Scott Norton VS Fit Finaly and Jerry Flynn: I always enjoyed Adams in the ring, god rest his soul. A very good match but Norton sucks in the ring. Apparently he is big in Japan though.

Norman Smiley VS Prince Iaukea: With all the talent WCW had and we get this match? Well it wasnt half bad, even though no one cared.

Perry Saturn VS The Cat: Always liked Saturn; This match was decent but nothing speical. Why was the Cat so popular anyways? Because he danced? Whoopty do!

Eric Bishoff VS Ric Flair: This matches were a dime a dozen back in the last years of WCW. The outcome would be forgotten in a matter of days.

DDP VS Giant: I was excited to see this match. Despite Hart coming out, the match went really well. I loved the ending.

Goldberg VS Nash: If you think Goldberg was 173-0, then you believe in Santa. Nash was a booker in the company at the time and hogged the spotlight. Can you guess who won? Nash put on a good match.

Overall, there were some very good matches on this card. Id recommend it to fans who miss the days of the WWE-WCW wars. As I said, WWE is planning on releasing Best of Starcade this summer. Cant wait for that....more info

So i'll bump it up to 4 stars. IF YOU R AN OLD FAN OF WRESTLING AND DONT LIKE THE NEW STUFF OR A WCW FAN, BUY IT, ITS CHEAP AND WORTH IT!!!!...more info
  • The great, good, bad and ugly...
All in all a good show.

    The Great:
Nash vs. Goldberg- This is a really good bout, its more of a fight though so dont expect Benoit/Malenko.

DDP vs. Giant: Greay psychology in the match and AWESOME finish.

Cruiserweights: Kidman puts on a good show here. If you like Kidman, watch souled out 2000 to see him steal the hsow.

    Halls promo

    The Good:

Flair vs. Bishoff-fun, but cheap ending.
Nwo vs. WCW tag match: I liked this bout, IM A NORTON MARK
Jericho vs. Konnan: good mix of styles

    the bad:
Cat vs. Saturn: Cat is a great at non wrestling roles like he did in wcw 2000, Saturn was wasted here.

    The ugly:
Norman vs. Prince I-a-k?-uh (dont know how to spell it)-boooooorrrrrrrinnnnnnggggg

when I rated this video it got a 69D+ then I added 3 points for the interviews, ect... so its finnal score came out to a 72C-
Each match was worth 10 points except for the main event which is worth 20 as it should be becouse it being the best match on the card has to be rated a little harder.
This is how I rated each match how good the wrestling was=5, history leading up to the match=2 1/2, and the entertainment= 2 1/2 which makes 10 points. I rated the main event how good the wrestling was=5 1/2
History leading up to the match=3, the entertainment=3, the lentgh of the match=2 1/2, and the finnish=5 which makes 20 points. rey jr vs. kidman vs. juventud got 10-10, kidman vs. guerrero got 8-10, smiley vs. iaukea got 4 1/2-10, saturn vs. cat got 5-10, adams/norton vs. finlay/flynn got 3 1/3-10, konnan vs. jericho got 7 1/2-10, bischoff vs. flair got 7-10, ddp vs. gaint got 9-10, and the main event Nash vs. Goldberg got 14 2/3-20....more info
  • Decent ppv plagued by a horrible finish.
Starrcade 98" one of the most remembered, but ultimately controversial and somewhat hated ppvs. Man what was WCW thinking? Allow me to explain.

Bill Goldberg went 170 I believe and was the first UNDEFEATED man in wrestling history to first gain the WCW/NWA US Title from Raven following a victory at Spring Stampede 98 over Perry Saturn.

He then earned a title shot in WCW Nitro after beating Scott Hall and then faced Hollywood Hogan in what really was a no contest to become the first undefeated man to win the WCW WORLD TITLE!!! WCW for almost a full year rode the Golberg bandwagon and it worked, they were dominating the ratings and dominating the WWF, all of a sudden someone got the stupid idea to end it all here at Starrcade 98. Who was it? Eric Bishoff or was it the politics of WCW front office like the WWF to screw its wrestlers after the company profited of them? Maybe.

Well here are the matches, they were actually all excellent don't let that low rating here on IMDb fool you, I am guessing that low rating comes from what I just said about the Goldberg match.

    WCW Cruiserweight Title match.

Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Juventud Guerrera vs. Kidman.

Great match, this was when WCW still had a great Latino audience and the cruiserweights were a example of luchador wrestling. 10 out 10 for this match and as added bonus Eddie Guerrero challenges the winner, so we get a bonus match.

Konnan vs. Jericho for TV title. This was or should is when Jericho shoots his mouth on the ring. A good match, semi interesting.

Brian Adams +Scott Norton vs. Jerry Flynn + Fit Finlay. Eh somewhat interesting match involving the NWO, the ending was never in doubt. Scott Norton look like he used enough steroids to

    knock of bear.

Norman Smiley vs. Prince Iaukea. Eh probably the only lame match on the ppv.

Perry Saturn vs. The Cat. This was good. The Cat comes out and tries to intimidate Saturn by saying "The Cat" is gonna whoop his ass, but looking at physiques its obvious Saturn had a big edge. Ending is pretty obvious.

Eric Bishoff vs. Ric Flar. Whooo!! Well here we have a rare match with Bishoff when he was still running the NWO. After several humiliating incidents with Bishoff, embarrassing referees and Flair's family it came down to this. Good match. Flair beats up Eric, who has no wrestling body at all. Hes a weakling. However the NWO comes to bail him and well you can guess how it ends.

Diamond Dallas Page vs. The Giant. This comes of the heels of a rivalry between Page and Bret Hart, who together with the Giant, gave Page a serious beating, culminating with Page being chokeslam of a podium.

Hart makes a surprise appearance in the match. Good match.

Now the main event Golberg (Champ) vs. Kevin Nash.

Well after beating the heck out of Scott Hall this was Goldberg attempt to knock the other Outsider. Both men prove their equals, but its obvious Goldberg, wrestling and strenght wise, outmatch Nash.

(SPOILERS) Enter Bam Bam Bigelow trying to interfere in the match, but gets rewarded with a spear from Goldberg. Then Scott Hall the coward he is, comes in dressed as a security person and shocks Golderg with a tazer. Nash takes advantages and steals the title from Goldberg. A really cheap victory, probably the cheapest of Nash's career and this ends the Goldberg run for WCW, which again was the dumbest move WCW made.

It's like when the WWF rode Bret Hart after Hogan left and then screwing Bret Hart who went to WCW and revived the ratings there.

After this, WCW started to go a bit downhill, they eventually came back up and title changed hands, but this hurt WCW though, I am sure Bishoff and company would have liked to changed the outcome looking back but it still lucky for them wasn't the end for WCW not until 2001
