  • A Wild and Crazy Guy!
What a wild and crazy guy! What is really nice about Steve Martin is that he is funny without being vulgar and charms with his enthusiasm. As an artist and a person, he hasn't grown into cocaine or freebasing, but into a person most people would find talented and level headed. He has done the things that many comedians dream to do, stand up, movies, TV and writes books. He is not the greatest comedian who ever lived or among the greatest but might make a big impact by steadly growing as an artist and not crashing and burning into flames. This album is a classic of Stever Martin during his stand-up and Saturday Night Live days. He was there when it was new and great and so was he. He still is very good and reliable. ...more info

  • In all honesty - funny!
I'll admit to laughing at this, quite a few times throughout to be honest. I used to lie a lot, but now I try to tell the truth. And the truth is, this made me laugh....more info
  • WeLL Exxxxcuuuuuuuuse MEEEEehh!
I never knew how funny Steve Martin was back in the 70's. His comedy routine, is in a sense making fun of comedians but in such a graceful and lovable way, I mean tight rope walking balance.

His comedy is timeless, everyone can relate....more info
  • Kenny Rogers Opened For Steve Martin
In May of 1978 we finally got to play the main room at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe. Bill Harrah, like Steve Wynn, ran a class act hotel. An ordinary room at Harrah's had two bathrooms in every room and a TV in every bathroom. Imagine what the suites were like, not to mention the view of the lake and the fresh air. They were all second to none. The first time we played the main room, Kenny (Rogers) was the opening act for Steve Martin, who was still doing stand-up in those days. As anyone who's ever seen Kenny's show knows, he gives out a handful of autographed tambourines during the first song of every show and asks the recipients of his gifts to play along. No one thought to explain this to Steve Martin. The people with the tambourines couldn't keep them quiet during his monologue, and this distracted him too much to continue. But he was able to come up with a solution. The "Wild and Crazy Guy" jumped off the stage, ran through the audience, threw open the doors to the showroom, and ran through the casino screaming, "They're playing tambourines. They're playing tambourines, drain the lake!" -- Garth Shaw...more info
  • A Wild and Crazy Guy
This CD was exactly what I ordered and came well within the shipment window promised. I have liked Steve Martin since I saw him at The Birdcage at Knott's Berry Farm in the 60s....more info

His writings have always been the best to me. I love this little book and am sure you will too....more info
  • Not so hot... sorry to all fans, but this sounds tired
My apologies to all those who respect and like Steve Martin - please do not take it personally. To me, there are some stand artists who are good, and there are some who have reached the status of Holy Cows. You cannot touch them without invoking an avalanche of "NOT HELPFUL" button-clicks (watch this space folks!). To me, in this Hall of Tired and Not So Funny Humor there is Monty Python, Robin Williams and yes - Steve Martin.

I do not think Steve Martin is even a good actor. He is as one-dimensional in his on-screen act as he is in his stand-up performances. Some of the jokes might have been funny 25 years ago, today they are just sad. Incidentally, he shares the same sad charcteristic with Robin Williams: for the poor quality of writing they compensate with a "charged" performance.

Give me something else, please - because not all good things get better with time. Some things might have been so-so, but now they have positively gone sour....more info

  • Prepare to Laugh Out Loud
Boy, "Let's Get Small" is a poor album to start with for Steve Martin fans. "Wild and Crazy Guy" is far superior to that album....more info
  • Truly wild and Crazy
Steve Martin will go down as a legendary comedian. This will have you laughing for hours!...more info

  • A good piece of the past.
For any who want to see Steve Martin at his rocketing beginnings (when some of us thought he would ONLY be a standup comic) this is a great companion piece to "Let's Get Small." Though that cd sounds like a club date, this has some material not used on that first cd, along with live "stadium" stuff that Martin did following the first cd.
I actually saw him opening night at the Universal Amphetheater, with opening band THE BLUES BROS. - whose "Briefcase Full of Blues" was recorded later that week at these string of shows.
Funny stuff here, some of it dated, but if you were a fan at the time, or if you never heard Martin stand up you will like this. "King Tut" is great and should never be forgotten...it is worth the price of this cd alone!...more info
  • Our Teenagers Love Steve Martin!
Our kids bought this CD for their Dad's birthday, but now all the kids have memorized the lines and songs--I am not sure who had more fun with this "gift!"

Steve Martin still makes us crack up, and it is great to hear another generation joining the fun.

  • Does some good pickin' and a grinnin'!
Steve Martin has become a cultural staple in the comic community. With hysterical films and outlandish Saturday Night Live performances, it would be obvious that Martin would be a great choice to do a comic album. Well, in this film guys opinion, you are going to need to be a big fan of Martin to stomach this album. His humor is offbeat, never quite following a pattern or direction. Instead of actual jokes, he resorts to making noises on the album that I am sure are funny in person, but listening to it just comes off a failure. His "Cat Handcuffs" bit is humorous, but the rest becomes obvious that somebody was looking to cash in on Martin's popularity. I would have loved to see Steve Martin in concert during his younger days, I am sure that he would make me laugh my socks off, but it just doesn't translate well to day's style. I am sorry Steve, but I liked your other album better.

Grade: ** out of *****...more info

  • great comedy
Steven Martin is a great comedian for just about anyone. I am 14 years old and enjoy his comedy very much. Many comedians today throw too much profanity into their acts. While this can be funny, after a while it gets old. Steve Martin may throw in some profanity but he doesn't get old. Steve Martin is a very original man. The only weak point of this CD is the songs, Martin would have been better doing two more comedy skits than doing the songs. All in all its a 4 star performance....more info
