The very epitome of "been there, done that," LL Cool J also has the distinction of having originated (or, at least, being the most proficient at) half a dozen rap styles. On the hits collection All World, all the phases are represented: he was "hard as hell" on 1986's "Rock the Bells" and again on 1991's "Mama Said Knock You Out"; on 1987's "I Need Love," he was the painfully sappy precursor to Boyz II Men, but he had the formula down pat for 1990's "Around the Way Girl" (and then he went sappy again on 1995's "Hey Lover," a collaboration with the Boyz); and 1988's "Going Back to Cali" found him stylin'. He's had his ups and downs and managed to produce only a couple of truly killer albums, but LL's first dozen years show that he's left his stamp on nearly every facet of the hip-hop world. --Randy Silver
- Love it once again!
This CD I believe is filled with LL Cool J bests! From his beginning to more recent (but not too recent) stuff he's a very talented individual. The coolness of "Going back to Cali" to "Hey Lover" this cd has not only a few of my favorites but almost all of my favorites. I'd say this is definately a must have in your collection....more info

- A Ten Year Span Of Greatest Hits (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars)
Not many people can have an excellent career like LL Cool J. From 1985 to 1995, Uncle L has really given us many rememerable jams for us to kick it with. From old school tracks like "Rock The Bells" and "I'm Bad", LL has proven why he is one of the best of the 80's & 90's. Back in 1990 when I was a kid, one of the first rap songs I heard was "Mama Said Knock You Out", and every time I play that song, it always bring back memories. "Back Seat Of My Jeep" is another classic single that I found to be one of my favorites from this album.
I do have a few guilty pleasures on this album. "Going Back To Cali" is one of them (possibly because of my love for that state). And the female songs like "Jingling Baby" the smooth "Hey Lover" is more that I had an enjoyment for. And the pop song that still gets play on the radio frequently "Loungin (Who Do You Luv Remix)" is another great addition. There are a few songs that are missing (just like almost every greatest hits album), like "Pink Cookies..." and "I'm That Type Of Guy", but I'm not going to sweat that. This album is still excellent for a ten year span of LL. If you're a fan of 80's and 90's rap, don't hesitate to pick this up here. I really started getting into him when he dropped "The G.O.A.T." and thought this CD would help me catch up with his earlier work. Now only if his most recent CD's were half as good as this here.
- LL cool J, bringing back the fun in Hip Hop
The new CD all world definatlely the best of the best from LL cool J. In the midst of Gangster Rap and songs about death and killing, LL cool J raps about the most basic principles of human nature; Love, and having fun. Listening to this CD makes me want to get up and head to a club, or better yet, just get down in my living room. Great Job LL!...more info
- And your top 5 rappers are who
It's funny how so many people put together these top 5 of all time lists and LL Cool J isn't in there. There can't be a top 5 because there is plenty of rappers like LL who don't get credit where credit is do. This album is a well put together greatest hits. If you don't know much about LL then this album will help you get started in buying all of his great albums. LL's lyrics were way beyond his time and for a 16 year old kid to be so lyrically sick seems unbelievable. The production definitely matches LL's talent and it makes this album amazing. No skip album are the best words for this and hip hop fans know when they hear those words the album is perfect. This is a perfect album to pay respect to one of hip hops living legends. if you listen to this I'm sure you'll change your mind about who your top 5 of all time are....more info
- The greatness of Uncle L is based on the first half of his career.
The second half was hit or miss. But for the most part all of LL's biggest hits from the mid 80's to the mid 90's are here. ...more info
- Pop J meets Cool J
What up people, it's LL Pop J speaking. Now you may guess: Who inspired me to this name, eh?! Right: The one and only, the grandmaster of rap business, THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME: JAMES TODD SMITH, LL COOL J!!! This CD includes his most succesful titles, from "I can't live without my radio" over "I need love" until "Hey lover". Here you can have a general impression of the meaning of HipHop, what a 17-year-old guy is able to do......more info
- For all hip hop fans!
If only "Phenomenon" would've been included in this great list of songs! That's the one that's missing here to completely make this the perfect CD. LL COOL J is definitely in a league of his own. He can't be compared to anyone else even though he is a rapper and he's in a lot of company and his sound is unique.
Since the beginning L.L. said he was the best and although he's had tracks that didn't satisfy everyone, all of his tracks satisfied someone. L.L. has yelled, whispered, talked, and laughed on albums, something only half the rappers out there wish they could get away with. This album says a lot but in my opinion, it's only part of the story. Like I mention earlier there are a lot more forgotten hits on his albums and singles. (Check out G.O.A.T) There are a lot of great artist out there, and L.L. is definitely one of them. And still going strong (Talk about longevity).
Not only does this CD bring back childhood memories for me, but it's one of the best hip hop albums out there. Buy this, you'll love it. Every hip hop fan should own this if they haven't already.
- A Must BUY!!
LL COOL J is a fantastic artist this CD just simply portrays his style. it's a definate 5 stars...more info
- ugh. i wish i hadn't bought this...
...mainly because i think less of LL as a person now, not necessarily as a rapper...
what a letdown. i ordered this for 75 cents (no joke) off half.com after watching ll cool j preach his way through deep blue sea. i got it because i remembered "mama said knock you out" and "going back to cali", and i remember liking them, but jeez, man, those are the only two tracks worth listening to on this entire friggin' cd. and this is the greatest hits? most upsetting of all is that j comes off as a huge jerk...the lyrics here are even more chauvinistic and disrespectful than i would have expected from a more typical street-rapper. some of the songs are scarcely listenable the message is so embarrassing. the good news is, of course, that "knock you out" is even more badass than i remember....more info
- Very Good
I think this one of the best CDs I've ever listened to. It's a good collection of the great hits he had....more info
- it was a great cd.
I like the way he raps. He got a very strong voice. And the lyrics he puts in the songs are excellent. Especially in "Doin' it well" song, he has such a sexy voice and laughs....more info
- LL Cool J, rap pioneer
LL Cool J was a pioneer of rap, coming only a few years after Run-DMC, yet he is still popular today. This is a great compilation featuring all of his classic hits and showing his progression through different stages in his career. It came at exactly the right time too, in 1996, because with a few exceptions everything he's done since the "Mr. Smith" album has been lackluster. LL really made some great songs, and some people don't look at him as a hard rapper, but he really was back in the day and he deserves a lot of respect. He was very influential on hip hop and a lot of guys today owe him something.
The CD contains hits from the albums "Radio", "Bigger and Deffer", "Walking With A Panther", "Mama Said Knock You Out", "Fourteen Shots To The Dome", and "Mr. Smith", all of which were good. Since then, Cool J has made "Phenomenon", "G.O.A.T.", "10" and "The Definition". The album sort of goes in chronological order, starting with the original "I Can't Live Without My Radio". Then comes the classic, "Rock the Bells". "I'm Bad" was also pretty classic, the video especially. "I Need Love" introduced us to the sappy lover side of LL Cool J, but the song isn't terrible. "Going Back to Cali" was a pretty cool song. My favorite, "Around The Way Girl" from 1990 is the tenth track, it has good production and chorus. "Mama Said Knock You Out" was one of the hardest songs he's ever done, from the 1990 album of the same name. "The Boomin' System" is a funky song meant for your ride. "Doin' It" is really good, I like the chanting and the production my Trackmasters is A+. The "Loungin'" remix is included, a good song. It finishes with the Boyz II Men collaboration "Hey Lover", a peaceful end.
Although it does contain some kind of forgettable tracks like "Back Seat", all of these tracks were hits, and they're mostly great, it's a very entertaining listen. The only song that should be here but isn't is "I'm That Type of Guy", but that was probably kept off because if it was here it would qualify for the "Parental Advisory" sticker. LL was a great rapper, and while never a genius lyrical artist, he made good songs and is a true hip hop pioneer. Don't look at him as washed up, but as a true father of hip hop. Anybody who doesn't have all of the LL albums ought to get this....more info

- I love this guy
LL is one of my all time favourite rappers and this is a great album. I've had it for many years but decided to review it because I listened to it recently for the first time in a little while. You can't go past Mama Said Knock You Out and Going Back to Cali. But everything on here is great and all the work since this album is great too. He has staying power because his music is so good (and nice body too). He's more underated than I'd like because I truely believe he's so talented. Get this now even if you aren't a fan, because it will give you a clue as to what he's about. I love it....more info
- THA GREATEST HITS BY THA GREATEST ARTIST OF ALL TIME
4 me, LL is tha best artist ever. When it was conventional 4 rappers 2 gangsta rap, LL was inventing and refining his own style, never compromising his image with classics such as "Hey Lover" and "I need Love". "Loungin" is a classic so R "Ain't Nobody" and "Doin It" and the older tracks show the evolution of hiphop. Classic album, but not his best, cos his best album is PHENOMENON....more info
