Customer Reviews:

  • Don't Die Before Reading This Book!
If you have any retirement accounts (IRA, 401K, Keogh, etc.) the government can take a big chunk after you die unless you carefully choose your beneficiaries (the younger the better). No one else ever told me about this. The author writes clearly and with a good sense of humor. Read this, and more importantly act on this excellent advice....more info
  • Ridiculous
Writing reviews for Amazon is getting ridiculous. I received my order before the deadline and in the condition promised....more info
  • The Retirement Savings Time Bomb ... and How to Defuse It
This book probably will save me thousands of dollars in taxes. I am 55, got laid off, and will probably have to dip into my 401k. This book informed me that if I keep my 401k in my former employer's retirement account and NOT roll it over to an IRA, I can remove some money without the 10 percent penalty. My former employer's 401k fund manager sent me lots of glitzy information on the various accounts and options, but failed to inform me of this critical money-saving fact. ...more info
  • Do you want your IRA to go to the IRS or your family?
Its hard to believe that you can spend your entire working life providing for your family and saving money to support yourself in retirement only to lose most of your retirement assets to the IRS when you die. Ed Slott's recent book provides strategies and ideas on ways to maximize your IRA and other retirement assets so that more of it stays in your family and out of the hands of the government.

Ed turns the table on the IRS and puts you in greater control of how your IRA assets are taxed and when. Using these strategies, it is possible for your beneficiaries to grow your IRA assets faster than the IRS can tax them! It's not rocket science, but you have to know how to do it.

If you have significant IRA assets and follow the strategies Ed describes, you will be able to leverage your IRA to its fullest leaving a financial legacy for your family that will provide financial security and income for decades to come -- long after you are gone. The alternative? Allow the IRS to take what they want first and let your kids fight over what is left. You decide....more info
  • Great, but not for everyone
So, this book was great for me. The topics were exactly what I wanted... most people don't concern themselves with the distribution side of the IRA, but rather only with the contribution and investment side. Ed discusses this mostly in the context of estate planning and figuring out how to maximize your contributions. If you plan on depleting your retirement plan and not passing it to your heirs, there is much in this book that you'll pass over. However, if you have a large retirement plan and intend on either
    a) being able to pass to heirs
    b) have to pass to heirs
then you'll want to read this book.

  • Retirement Savings Book
Technical book about 401(k) and IRA retirement plans. It requires some background to understand many of the concepts, but the author tries to make the concepts as understandable to as many people as possible. Useful for people who are of advanced age and required to make decisions about retirement options....more info
  • The Retirement Savings Time Bomb...
I've "started" reading many books that for one reason or another were never finished. Ed Slott's book "The Retirement Savings Time Bomb..." was so interesting and informative, I finished it in less than a week. A record time for me. I have both a Traditional IRA and a Roth self-directed IRA. Ed's info is right on the money. I would recommend this book to all owners of IRA's. ...more info

This book is well worth the price. it is a very easy read. In fact, I would say it is humorous, and breezy....no small feat since , and that means something when many books in this area are like reading economic text books in University. This will help teach you how to keep Government away from your nest egg. ...more info
