Description:The hp psc 2510 photosmart all-in-one printer, flatbed fax, scanner, copier delivers home network convenience with professional-quality performance. .Reviewed by: czempel from CA on Dec 5, 2003
Experience: 6 Days
Strengths: Convenient - saves a lot of desk space. Good quality scans, copies, faxes, and printouts. Ethernet and wireless networking!
Weaknesses: Installs TONS of software! Installs an unnecessary font that interferes with other Mac software. Installs a program that always runs in the background.
Summary: MAC USERS - NOTE: The installer installs a font named "Times RO" which is incompatible with Safari. Apple says this font is unnecessary and can be deleted. (More info at User Supplied Web Link.) You can use Finder's "Find" command to locate and delete it after installation finishes. HP is aware of this problem, but hasn't posted anything about it yet in the support FAQ on their web site.
Aside from that, I like the desk space I saved, getting rid of a laser printer, an inkjet, a scanner, a fax machine, and the copier I always wanted but never had room for. (On the other hand, I gave up a lot of hard disk space!) The print quality seems very good, even on plain paper. It does some nifty but ultimately unnecessary things with memory cards from cameras, making proof sheets and prints without the computer. (And I've finally got that copier I always wanted - a color one at that!)
I wish it could scan and copy items larger than US Letter or A4. It will print US Legal size and even use banner paper, though. And the lid comes off for odd-shaped and bulky items.
The biggest plus is the networking - HOORAY! I have only used it connected to my home's Ethernet network (setup was easy), but it also has a wireless networking ability for those who need it.

Strengths: Excellent all-in-one machine.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: I installed this all-in-one today and had a problem when it was in the final setup of software. It gave the instructions on the computer screen of what to do when an error was encountered. I followed the instructions and it uninstalled and reinstalled the software. After that, I had no problems and everything seems to be working great. I have scanned, printed and copied photos and transferred pictures from the card slot with no problems. I haven't used the fax but I think it should work fine. I would recommend this product. HP has a rebate for $50 good through 11/20/04 which is an added bonus.

Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: Followed the exact instructions out of the box and installed perfectly. Have had no problems yet. I have scanned, printed and used my compact flash card to transfer photos and all has worked great. Have not yet used the fax. Hopefully it will go as smooth as everything else. Would recommend so far. HP has a $50 rebate on it now.

Strengths: wireless after getting through the proper install
Weaknesses: Tech Support! Time it took to reach the right support level and figure out wireless. Also software load is a huge install.
Summary: I had the same issues as several other reviewers regarding the wireless functionality (which is why I bought this model). In my case it took more than 4 hours on the phones with techs. The issue came down to the the fact that I could not complete the install due to the firewall and WEP security settings on my Linksys router. Once these were disabled the install finished fine. I can turn back on my personal firewall and the router firewall, but the WEP security can not run properly - a level 2 tech said "I have seen that before" - so to get around this and not allow generic logins to my wireless network I had to turn on MAC address filtering, but it works!

Strengths: Multifunction, Wireless Connectivity, Big LCD, Media Slots
Weaknesses: Expensive inks. No Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)
Summary: This is one sweet All-in-One loaded with features like Media Slots, PC-free printing/faxing, and Wireless Printing. Photos print out beautifully and LCD screen is useful. Its printing is a bit slow (compared to some other MFCs). Scanning/Faxing/Copying work very well. Software is big can be troublesome depending on what all you have installed on your PC. HP needs to work a bit more on improving their software. Ink consumption is pretty decent but inks are expensive. The printer itself is expensive but if you can afford it it is a sweet multifunction.

Experience: 9 Months
Strengths: Easy to use, great print quality, duplexer availability, wireless!
Weaknesses: Lots of software to install.
Summary: I was fortunate enought to get one of the first PSC 2510's released and have installed it on 2 computers, one my desktop running XP Professional and the other my old decrebit Windows 98 notebook. Both installed easily and worked perfectly. Installation was simple however time consuming due to the amount of software.
What was really fun was sitting in the backyard, surfing the internet and printing totally wireless. The ability to print, Scann or fax wirelessly is very nice I was amazed at how easy it all was. Scanning can be done either from your desktop or printer. Frequently I scan documents that need to be emailed, the software will scan directly to Outlook and do just about everything for you. All you have to do is address the email and send it, no locating the file on your computer, attaching the file, re-sizing it,etc the benefit of all that software is it does all that for you, a huge time saver.
I have moved residences since initially getting the printer and was worried about setting up my network in my new place but the worry was for nothing. I simply plugged in my router, turned on the 2510 and within seconds the blue light came on indicating it had found the router again. I turned on my desktop and was running printing again within minutes.
Duplex printing was somthing I wanted to save paper, I bought the optional duplexer and have been using it for many months. It takes seconds to install, no software just plug it in to the back of the printer and it's ready. It works as advertised and has never jammed.
Since owning the printer I have printed about 5000 pages and have not had any paper jams, because I do most of my printing in draft mode (excellent quality too) this saves ink. If ink cost is a consideration this printer is rated at 450 pages (double spaced type written letter on 8.5"x11" paper) and black ink is only $19.99 USD. To save money on ink buy it in multi packs if they are available in your area.
I have printed out about 30-40 photos using the optional 58 photo ink too, quality is very nice and swapping in and out the cartridge takes seconds. HP thoughtfully includes a stand/protector with each photo cartrdige that can be used with any of the cartrides. I have left mine in this for over 6 months, the cartridge has not dried out and seems to work fine even after 6 months of non use! Try that with an Epson or Canon.
HP has hit a home run with the PSC2510 it's great!

Experience: 21 Days
Strengths: Excellent all in one printer offering everything in a small footprint.
Weaknesses: Software that installs literally 8000! files on my Mac. I mean really. Is that necessary? Come on. Also, you must set this machine up as USB or network when you install. Not Both! Why not both?
Summary: You gotta love having a fax, copier, scanner, printer, flash reader on your desktop. Here are my comments:
Printing: Simply amazing. I had no idea what I was missing from using my Epson all these years.
Faxing: Oops. Forgot to try it out. I gotta do that.
Copying: Well, this is just great. Wanna do that rebate? Cool, just copy the receipt, UPC, etc. Right at home! Color copies are great!
Scanner: I am a little dissappointed with this. Now, understand, I am using it as a wired network connection. The scans are great, but the scanner software sometimes looses the connection between scans. It also does not keep your presets of file format or resolutions between runs. It always defaults to 150x150, TIFF, going to HP's OnTheWeb or something. You would figure most people just want to scan to a file as JPG, but nooooo. You have to change it every time from their defaults. Basically, the software is a pain to use.
Flash: Well you can print from flash. You can mount a flash on the desktop using their annoying software, but sometimes I could not get it to mount. When it mounts it does work fine.
Cons: You must configure it on install as USB, Wireless, or Wired. It does not auto switch. Why not?
Summary: Great hardware! Poor software implementation with 8000 installed files. And you cannot seem to turn off the software that runs at startup. It is not even necessary. Hopefully, there will be updates to the software.

Weaknesses: After 42 Hours(no joke, I was obsessed)with HP Tech Support Teams; Level 1 Techs, Case Mangagers, & level 2 techs... the resut - There is a bug in the driver.
Summary: This product will most likely NOT work (on a wireless network, transmiting wirelessly) as intented if you load the driver on more than one computer connected to your nextwork (pc, not mac). Furstrated I had to return it after more than 40 hours of trouble shooting. The Level two Tech (yes there are level 2 techs.. you just have scream a little to get it escalated past the normal worthless India based tech support (nothing against India, been there.. great people, love the Taj, go Dali Lama!... but none of them have actually ever seen the product.
Long of the short of it:
I've had both the Level two tech and the Case Manager admit there was nothing more they could do... the drive is flawed
System: XP Pro, 2.79Mhz, 512RAM, 30gigi of free space, Service Pack 1
If you want to try, your insane, but here's some info for ya that will save you sometime:
HP Executive Customer Service - (650)857-7177
Head of the group - Tim Metcalf
Manager - Annette - she will do everything in her power to stick to "PROTOCAL" and NOT do a darn thing to help.
Sub-Manager - Holly, nice but not empowered to do anything but refer you to Shannon*
*Shannon - A great case manager (although she and her level two team will be outsources to India in late May 2004 at which point you will really be up the creek w/o a...you know:-)
Shannon - 208-333-4040 ext. 56951...
Level two Tech - "Cory T." Both these guys are fantastic and really pleasent to work with... they tried everything they could but are so low level themselves that in the end thay had to admit defeat.
Cory - THANK YOU FOR YOU HELP!
If you want to use this product and your home network only has one computer on it that will have the driver loaded fine... other wise don't do it!!!!

Strengths: It does everything, and with excellent quality
Weaknesses: Cumbersome software; on the slow side
Summary: I previously had a Xerox all-in-one, and this is light years better. I use this for a home office, and have multiple PCs that need to print to it. For me, the networking was very easy to get working, although I used a LAN cable and not the wireless option.
I haven't tested the faxing yet, but everything else works very well. Printing quality is excellent. When printing from the computer, the printer properties dialog gave me 5 screens of options! (Does it really behave differently with each of the 20+ different types of paper it lists?)
This printer has slots for 2 ink cartriges: 3-color and black. It does support a third type, photo, but you need to take out the black cartridge to use it. Also, they didn't give me a sample in the box the try it out.
You can also do almost everything from the panel. Some things, such as adjusting the settings when printing photos from a memory card, are useful. But some, such as being able to email a photo directly from the printer, I will never use.
I really only have two minor complaints:
- it is a bit on the slow side, although this is not a big concern to me as I don't do volumes of printing, and
- (as other reviewers have mentioned) it does install quite a lot of software - I'm sure there are now things on my computer I do not want running. There are no options to control this during the 20 minute installation.

Summary: My new digital camera is charging and have not utilized the photo capabilities at this time. Strengths: Wireless capable, print quality, media slots
Weaknesses: Installation was difficult
Summary: I enjoyed the idea of having a AIO being wireless and the PSC 2510 is one of the first ones in the market. Although the idea is very well thought out I found that the installation is a pain and sometimes confusing. Alot of firewall conflicts that prevent scanning and sometimes printing UNLESS you turn off the firewall during those functions which is inconvenient. Tech support didn't provide me with enough assistance to get rid of this problem...I'm guessing it's still relatively new and glitches still needs to be worked out.
I do like this machine but installation can be difficult and the software can conflict with various softwares in your computer. There will be newer wireless compatible AIOs coming out in the market soon and I hope they worked out the glitches that plagued this model. If you can get it to work properly this unit is top notch. If you can't I suggest you wait til they fix this problem...

Strengths: Great, easy to use all in one machine. Best of all, wireless built-in.
Weaknesses: Wireless do need a bit of time to set up.
Summary: You can have this printer working in less than 20 minutes. The wireless configuration takes about 45 minutes...but everything in under an hour's time. You can set it up anywhere in the house and any computer on your network can send the unit print jobs or faxes. I desperately needed a copier and fax but this machine does it all and then some. Ink Cartridges can be pricey... but most of them are.
