Miami, FL February 15, 2004--Rabbi Menachem Katz of Miami's Aleph Institute announced the final week of their Annual "Chinese" Charity Auction. The Chinese Auction is an Internet-based lottery at , where ticket prices are determined by the value of each prize and each prize has a separate drawing. The Grand Prize this year is $18,000 in cash, and will be awarded at the Shul of Bal Harbour on Monday, February 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Participants need not be present to win.

Founded in 1981, Aleph is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) national organization; purchasers of tickets for each of the fabulous 68 prizes being offered can write their purchases off as a donation, according to Rabbi Katz. "Everyone is a guaranteed winner," he adds, "by doing this Mitzvah and receiving a tax deduction from our 22-year-old charity."

Special "Discount Ticket Packages" are now also offered on the site, as well. Other items included in the auction include a dazzling diamond necklace, Getaway Cruise for two, and digital video cameras and recorders. Down to the last seven days of ticket sales, Rabbi Katz offers, "If you enter now we will give you extra money to play with."

Ever since the tragic events of 9/11, every good patriotic American has been looking for ways to help others and be a part of something special. Everyone is aware of the critical role the brave young men and women of our armed forces are playing in assuring our safety and essential freedoms and wants to show their appreciation for the sacrifices of this country's brave heroes who put their lives on the line but most people often do not know how.

The Aleph Institute supports the troops. As part of our very own "Operation Enduring Traditions," Aleph has been distributing thousands of packages to soldiers for every Jewish holiday including Purim, Passover, High Holidays and Chanukah. These packages are sent to Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine bases here in the United States, and to personnel stationed abroad such as Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Bahrain, Afghanistan, England, Germany, Turkey, Bosnia Saudi Arabia, Italy, Kosovo, Qatar C and even Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Aleph has shipped packages to Navy ships in the Arabian Sea. Besides Holiday supplies, over 2,000 soft-cover pocket-sized Hebrew/English Psalm books along with other religious books for military personnel to carry with them and turn to for prayer and security at all times. It serves as a source of hope and support through our continuous spiritual and rehabilitative activities throughout the year.

In furtherance of that goal, Aleph has created and implemented a host of programs over the past twenty years that provide alternatives to incarceration, rehabilitate inmates, counsel and assist their families, and provide moral and ethical educational programs inculcating universal truths and concepts common to all of humanity.

Aleph attempts to assist all, regardless of their religious observance, affiliation, background or lack of one. Aleph has also developed educational programs for non-Jews, based on the Seven Noahide Laws (universal code of ethics and morality) that are applicable to all of humankind, and provides social services to all who reach out, regardless of race, creed, sex, color or religion.
